They don't explain this in the film but its an important detail - the map was created by Lupin, Sirius, Pettigrew (Scabbers) and James (Harry's dad). The title on the map says "Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs present to you the Marauder's Map." Moony is Lupin (werewolf), Wormtail is Pettigrew (rat), Padfoot is Sirius (dog), and Prongs is James (stag). Their friend group called themselves the Marauders, and they terrorized the school with pranks. The three friends learned how to transform into animals so that they could help Lupin on the nights he transformed.
@jwsel Жыл бұрын
One of the biggest flaws in the films is that they do not provide enough background information about the Marauders (James, Sirius, Lupin, and Pettigrew). It also isn’t clear in the film why Lupin and Snape came to the Shrieking Shack. Lupin believed Sirius was a killer, but Harry saying he saw Pettigrew shook that belief. When Sirius took Ron, Lupin was looking at the map and saw Pettigrew’s name. He realized that Pettigrew was alive and figured out that he framed Sirius. When he rushed out of his office, he left the map open. Snape came to the office to give Lupin a potion to control his change into a werewolf, saw the map, and followed Lupin to the shack. As for Pettigrew framing Sirius, what happened was that James and Lily learned Voldemort was after them. They went into hiding using a charm that allowed only one person to know where they were. If you weren’t that person or were told by that person, it would be impossible to find them. They made Sirius their secret-keeper, but he thought it would be too obvious to Voldemort so he suggested they change the secret-keeper to Pettigrew, who nobody would think likely to be entrusted with something so important. Pettigrew then told Voldemort where the Potters were. Nobody else knew of the change, so they all assumed Sirius betrayed the Potters. Pettigrew completed the frame by confronting Sirius in a street, blowing it up and killing a bunch of Mughles, cutting off his own finger as evidence he “died,” and changing into a rat to escape. Because he disappeared, everyone assumed Sirius commuted the murders.

@@sweety3303 This is the interesting thing about this particular time-turning event. It relied on a few convenient things for their past selves to still think Buckbeak died. 1. The pumpkins being there. 2. Them deciding to chop one. 3. Them unable to see Buckbeak. If they prevented their past selves thinking Buckbeak died, their past selves wouldn't use their time-turner. But they must. When they go back they remember all the things their future selves did. So it's not just a one and done thing set in stone. Their new past selves must go back, and may do it slightly differently until it gets consistent. Also there's a paradox with him saving himself from all the Dementors. How could he have first gone back to save himself? And for the question of if Buckbeak died before they went back in time. If we're just talking about before WE saw them go back in time, then we never saw Buckbeak die. 41:52 Dumbledore didn't travel back in time, he just already knew that Harry & Hermione did. The thing you have to keep in mind when it comes to time travel stories is that they establish their own rules. Most stories either use one timeline only or multiple timelines. Sirius is the big hound you kept seeing throughout the movie. Sirius, Rat-Man, and Harry’s Dad became Animagi (a long process in which a witch or wizard is able to shift into a one specific animal.) They did this to keep Lupin occupied when he became a Werewolf. As someone mentioned, they also made the Map :) Great reaction, cheers guys :)

A strong inherent theme in the HP books is Harry's loneliness and his desire to connect with family. You see his love for the Weasley family in second book / movie, and in this book / movie you see his desire to bond with his godfather. Out of respect to the channel, I won't say anything more than that.

And to be fair, the Weasleys see it in him too and quite happily treat him as if he was their own son. The Weasley family though, in general, got screwed over so badly in the movies. They are just so much.... more, in the books.

everyone and everything is so much more in the books. The scene in the shrieking shack (in the book) has some of my favorite dialogue in the whole series. The chapter is “Cat, Rat, and Dog,” if anyone wants to see what should have been, in the movie. 32:19

-If you go back and watch the original punching scene you can see future Hermione's hand on a stone wall in the background. -A strong patronus takes the form of an animal, Harry's and his Dad's are a stag. -Harry's father, Sirius, and Peter learned to become animagus so they could accompany Lupin when he transformed. Sirius was a dog, Peter a rat and James a stag. -They were the "Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs" that made the Marauder's Map. -Dumbledore wanted Lupin to be able to attend Hogwarts so The Shrieking Shack was made for lupin to go to on full moons to transform and the womping willow planted to keep students away. -And if you think about it, Ron's divination was true. Harry suffered but was happy that he did because he discovered the truth about his Godfather. -Everyone automatically assumed the person who betrayed the Potters was Sirius because he was their best friend and Peter cut his finger off and disappeared. The Potters actually gave the information to Peter because they thought Sirius would be too obvious. -Hermione literally told you who was in the corner as soon as they sat down. There was a whole exchange about it. -The dog was an animagus, It was sirius. Again Sirius IS NOT a werewolf. -Sirius Black didn't train Peter. Where did you get that? -They went back in time once. That WAS earlier. -Dumbledore absolutely did not go back in time.

Fun side note since this is the patronus movie. IN HP lore there was a dark wizard called raczidian who was sort of that ages voldemort. He had a legion of dementors for an army and the young boy who stopped them had a mouse for a patronus. It was the most powerful patronus ever documented and raczidian himself tried to conjure a patronus to fight off the mouse patronus, but since he was pure evil, maggots came out of his wands and ate him.

I once saw a play where the actor playing Pontius Pilate was booed when he walked onto the stage to makes his bows after the play was over. @user-qc7tv8xy1e Жыл бұрын
Just wanted to comment and say the reason Harry thought his dad was the one who conjured the patronus is because his dad was an animagus along with Sirius and Peter. Hence their names Padfoot the dog (Sirius) wormtail (Peter the rat) moony (Remus who’s a warewolf) and prongs. Prongs was Harry’s dad and his animagus was a deer which is why Harry’s patronus takes that form because he views his dad as his protector. The books go into a lot more detail about this and the mauraders in general so I thought I’d just comment and clear away any confusion :)

@@AutumnForest862 I don’t know if I would call what Harry went through the first two movies for lighter circumstances. Not to mention feeling unloved and tormented by the Dursleys for 11 years. @@Isildur94 People think that excessive vignette and dramatic camera shots/acting is what makes something darker and more intense. But just thinking through it, the whole series even from book 1 is pretty damn dark, the events that take place and the background story is very grim. It's just not as dramatically shot because the 1st 2 were definitely kids/family movies, while 3 onwards were aimed at teens.

But the noises people heard coming from that house was actually Lupin being a werewolf. The Marauders map was actually created by Padfoot, Wormtail, Moony and Prongs who were Sirius, Pettigrew, Lupin and James Potter respectively. They were a gang and the jerk tree was also put in place to hide Lupin's transformation when he was a student cos he was a werewolf and Dumbledore wanted to protect him from the students and vice versa. Which led the other three to become animagi (I hope that's the plural for an animagus lol) just so they could keep their friend company. Oh an Animagi is a human shape shifter and James, Wormtail and Sirius could turn into a Stag, Rat and Wolf respectively

To clarify, Dumbledore did not go back in time. Only Hermione and Harry went back in time. And they only did it once. Buckbeak was never originally killed, he was always set free, but we only see it the second time around. It's the classic time travel paradox you see in every time travel story.
