Fortunately, Eefje was completely better after a few days and she no longer had any problems.
Yearlings Gea, Hester, Geertje, Ginny and the two-year-old horses Eefje, Frieda and Elbrich.

Well done spotting that she was in pain. Horses are very stoic and careful to hide weakness. Colic and colitis can be deadly in a matter of hours. Poor girl - happy she’s better! Is she part of the young mare group?

The way she's holding herself, I wonder if digestive or possibly ovarian in origin? Digestive problems usually have clues from sounds or lack of, but reproductive problems can be harder to diagnose.

Eyes are sullen, droopy, " I FEEL LIKE CRAP". slow moving, not perky, steeping high, snorting, shaking head, like 'I feel good. Would there be any noxious weeds in the Pasture the horse might have eaten. A twisted bowel I think would be so painful the horse would be down and not get up, scary. Colic is such a pain, literally and some horses are prone to it.

No large cats, cougars or jaguars anywhere in Europe for several centuries. Wolves are rare and I don't think there are any in Holland. A pack of wolves might might attack a foal but not a full grown horse. A horse, especially an angry mare defending her foal, would likely kill a wolf.

battles146 ... you mean ragwort? sycamore? acorns? yew? bella donna? buttercups? Mainly they will only eat these if they are really hungry. They are all bitter to the taste...If ragwort is trodden on and broken from the stem and dies, this is when it becomes VERY TOXIC and they enjoy eating it because of the sugary taste. STILL VERY DANGEROUS. WHAT OUT FOR IT IN YOUR HAY SUPPLY.

I’m so so so happy she’s better!!! Give her a big cuddle from me 🤗 Do you ever ride bareback? That was my favorite! I started with jumping but my true passion was a long trail ride with a bareback pad! I miss riding so bad, my soul actually aches! I’m disabled so I can’t ride anymore 😢 but watching all your beautiful horses brings me so much happiness 😀

and that fact alone is what makes vets such incredible doctors. they have amazing training, like human doctors do, but with the added burden of trying to recognize why an animal is sick when they can't tell you exactly what hurts. i put my husband through vet school after we met working for veterinarians. he would bring home really sick dogs and hang IV meds on the shower curtain rod to treat them. i would help when i could. we actually adopted one little dog who had been seriously injured when hit by a car. once when my husband was ill i had to go to the vet school barn and give a horse an injection. scared me shitless! i have the upmost respect for animal doctors.

@@donvivian7999 Don Vivian ... PUKE??? Horses CANNOT PUKE. Due to their anatomy, it is impossible for them to "puke" that is why they suffer from colic on occasions. ALL food etc. has to pass through the gut and intestines to bowel and "out".

Eefje looked so sad and droopy, I felt sad and droopy too! My grandmother used to call ailments like the "The Grippe", which was very much like Eefje seemed to have. "The Grippe" affects humans too, so poor Eefje must have been miserable for awhile. So happy she is OK now.

Horses do talk but we don’t speak fluently the horses language. 50% we use gut feeling and the other 50% we guess.

It is so frightening when any animal is sick. When there is nothing obviously wrong, sometimes it becomes the art of ruling things out. They take temp, listen to the lungs, heart and digestive track, check for discharge at the eyes and nose, feel for heat or swelling of a joint or leg. Sometimes it just stays a mystery! 😳🙄💜
