The purpose of using echoslash during raptor strike is to be able to get out all 9 of those free uber attacks all at once, so you can immediately activate the bleed for instant damage and a stun right after. In other words, to give you the dota equivalent of the "cool" samurai moment where you slash past the foe, then slowly sheath your blade and THEN they fall over. That kind of thing.

If you get hit by the knockback before your hook connects, the hook will pull you. But if your hook connects and is already pulling you to the target and THEN you get hit by the gush, you get knockbacked, cancelling your hook.

Seems like gush and hook mutually cancel each other so whoever casts first loses. If you hook, then gush knocks you back, if he gushes then hook jumps over. Really hard to tell with the first fight because they were so close together.
