Dear, Thorsten. I want to thank you for the wonderful preset for Lightroom. I downloaded them and installed them right away. They are really very beautiful and good I am sure I will use them in my work. I don't shoot with a Leica because I can't afford one, I am a fan of the Leica Q2, I do it with a Lumix G9 and that goes very well. I think if they would have an audible feedback like Fuji for example that would fix that. But I don’t think the M11 has a speaker.

I shoot with a M10 and 35mm Summicron. Recently my Summicron lens became loose and I sent it to Leica repair person who tightened it and had it back to me within a week. Is this a common occurrence? I keep my M10 on its side in a Ona camera bag and I wonder if I should store and handle it in a better, safer way. I trust your advice and very much appreciate your lessons. Thank you!

I usually shoot - on my M10-R - with an ISO setting of 100. I shoot at ISO 100 to eliminate as much noise as possible from my photos. I've heard you and others say that one of the advantages of the M11 over Leica's other M cameras is that with the M11 there's no longer a need for ND filters in bright sunlight. I've found that by using ISO 100 - my usual low ISO setting - I often don't need ND filters in bright sunlight anyway. I'll admit that ND filters are a real nuisance in street photography. One of the reasons that I bought my M10-R is because it had a very quiet shutter. Is the sound of the shutter in the M11 even less noisy that of the M10-R? I recently bought a Leica M-A, a film camera, and the shutter sound of the all-mechanical M-A is like a rifle shot in comparison with the sound of my M10-R. Thank you for M11 tip.

The M10-R and M11 sound of the shutter is similar, I would say. The M11 has double-sound sometimes (actually four actuations reduced to the sound of two). More confusing for the user than an actual sound for anyone else.

I notice there’s a small, but noticeable shutter lag in my m11 compared to my m10 monochrom. Just doesn’t feel instant to me.

It's true that it sounds and feels like that, and it's been a discussion for a while if it actually is or not. My stand is that it's a delayed sound, and the trouble is not so much an actual delay in taking the picture, but that the sound delay throws you off: IT makes you hesitate and interrupts what you are doing. Use a Leica III from 1930 the other day, and the sound of that shutter is like a diamond falling into hot butter. Decisive, instant, not a second doubt that you just took a picture. Simple and pleasant.

I tried for many years to pronounce it correctly, but never succeeded. I think at this point it is what it is 🙂 Maybe one day the dictionaries will update it so I am correct.

First the M11 was known to freeze up and now the Leica Q3 has the same issue why is this ?

In the end you have helped me make the decision, my first Leica (silver M11) will arrive next week together with the Summilux-M 35 f/1.4. Could I get your advice for my 50mm? I put the Leica references, so as not to mess with the names. It could be 11688 (but I've already seen your review, it'll get to noisy and airport anecdote about the hood), 11892 and 11729. I hope I'm not taking up too much of your time. Thanks in advance! from the Canary Islands.

I would go for the limited edition 50/1.4, and as for the shade, Leica offers free conversion to screw if you just send it in (they give you the slip-on back as well, and add a screw to the shade so it stays on).
