I'm not doing a self build but I'll be PMing it myself. Pm'd the first house myself too and there are a few bits and bobs that aren't quiet right,.. I'll make sure they are right this time and tiny things like this will absolutely be on my checklist now. I'm loving your videos as you give so much experience to people who want things done right! great vids, keep them coming

we woz always told to silicone the end caps on before riveting and for good reason.. good work Columbo..👍😂

The end caps were siliconed on but just done badly 🙈

An LTT (Level Threshold Tray) fitted would solve many future issues. Also any block is porous so a tanked/sealed surface in contact with the expanding tape makes for a great seal, the tape incidentally guarding against material movement between block/wood/metal/plastic/silicone.

@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT I can DM you some photos of last install if you like, sliding door install into double wall, cut from existing wall and two trays, one on each course. Made to measure, the outer one heated and creased to fit within the 50mm gap, there adding DPM to base of gap as well.

Had a similar issue at the house we are now when we moved in. It has a roof lantern and one very wet day..... drip drip from the roof. Had some roofers out... no issues found... I went up and looked myself, and a joint cover on the sill had previously been siliconed and it had failed (peeling away, loose cover). So fixed it properly myself and no issues over the past few years.

i find it ridiculous how many professionals dont even do something as simple as a water test when finding leaks, they just show up, patch a few things and hope its right or they tell you the roof is fine which it might be from every trades individual perspective yet it still leaks. Get a hose, start down low, have somebody inside where the leak is and just go slow, 5mins on each area and move up the building. At the very least you can eliminate things and you should eventually find it, swap places with the other person if you cant. I have found some very odd places causing leaks very far away from where the problem is

‘If you’ve got a leak - let’s get it!’ - Yeah I watch him too - he is very good and entertaining. Do you watch the new build snagging guy - ‘This wall is two snickers bars out of plumb and what tuna melt melt done this - reeeeeediculous’ ? Anyhoo well done on the detective work😀👍

You really needed to set the door sill on a much wider DPC. The width should then be folded upwards internally and at the ends. Also, not a thin plastic one either but a heavy duty rubber style finish. Bit late now though … sorry.

I've still got to put the dpm down which will lap up the door, it'll be fine 😉 I can't imagine any moisture tracking up the wall as the doors are almost a meter high from the ground. NHBC states that the dpm should link to the dpc underneath the door and there's just about enough gap for me to do that 🙂

Your dpc should be tucked up inside since this is effectively a threshold detail

Not sure what you mean. I know I'm meant to tuck the dpm under the cill and the dpc is meant to be bonded to it 😬 I can kind of do that but maybe I should have put some dpm on before the cill. It's just for possible damp from driving rain according to the NHBC

The top bit of the inner lip of the sill is actually your FFL. So usually dpc is wrapper up to that point to and trapped by the final floor layer 👍. Hope that makes sense. You don't have alot of these done correct in the UK 🍌🍌🍌🍌🇬🇧.

@@Swwils ah yeah I know what you mean, this is the only door that doesn't have enough to do that. I'm sure it'll be fine though once the dpm laps up.
