What's not to love about this? That black brocade interior in particular is a standout for me. Can't be many with that interior left, let alone with the black top and exterior. One of one very likely. Congrats on finding this one and snagging it. I'm glad this car will get the love it deserves!

They're not too expensive they're not like the '60s cars or '80s cars which are both either near or starting to come down from their plateau or in the case of the '80s cars they're rising pretty quickly they're in that weird middle zone

Yes Adam, you've done it again! I have never seen a base Marquis, outside a sales brochure. The 2-door Mercury Marquis remains a very handsome automobile and they sold in very small numbers. Both the Ford LTD and the Mercury Marquis look very formal in all black, befitting a full-size car. Awesome find Adam! 👍👍

LOL'ing at the title!!! If Mercury ever attempted to build Johnny Cash, this car was certainly the result of that effort. The mortician's hot rod... Nice car! Chicago cars are often rather beat up, generally. Hard to believe that triple black was so uncommon on those! That bright cladding at the bottom of the front overhang... What about that nice '73-'79 F600 tow rig in the background??? Those have some of Ford's coolest gauges!!! Architecturally, @6:53, the curve on the continuation of the roof, over that masonry arched doorway!!! I never see that on new houses here, but I'll start looking. That harkens back to the 1920s and '30s.

Amazing that there are so many rust free cars in the rust belt where you seem to find so many of them. Congratulations on this latest find. I don't know how you keep up with them, as I had about ten cars at one time and could not keep everything working on them. Admittedly, none of mine were low mileage pristine cars. Mercs always flew under the radar mainly because of Buicks and Oldsmobiles. Better made cars with stouter Drive trains. And today, panther body Grand Marquis far as in some cases more popular now than ever. I've got a 2010 black one that I dearly love. No backup camera no navigation no sensors in the rear bumper. What's amazing about Adam doing these early to mid 70's Fords is that my dad used to work at the Ford dealership in Bozeman MT as the head of the service department and would prep all of these new vehicles when they would arrive at the dealership. And test drive all of them before they were put on the lot to be sold. I'd go with him to work on Saturday's, hang out in the lobby and go with him on test drives of all the new Ford, Lincoln and Mercury's he was working on
@rightlanehog31512 жыл бұрын
Although it can't compare directly to your experience, we had family friends in the 70s and their dad was a parts manager at Ford dealership. Several times a year we would get rides in the top of the line Ford demonstrators that were a perk of his job.

What a wonderful find, I still can’t believe you found so many 2 door big ford/Merc’s . In our area of the world-Iowa-Minnesota-South Dakota we just seen the 4 door cars, but there was the base models all over. I had a 73 or 74 brown Base Mercury with the 400, vinyl seats, am radio, ac. I never seen a mercury of that vintage with a vinyl seat other that that one. The 351m and 400 just didn’t seem to be great engines - we had a 71 400 that was pretty good(9:1 cr) but they seemed to be hurt the worse with strangling emissions tuning in power and economy....than the 460....

“Gonna buy me a Mercury, buy me a Mercury, cruuuuise cruise cruise, up and down this road”. You didn’t mention engine size. I think I guessed wrong for base model, 400, but apparently is the big 460? Until the next year, then 400 base. Black is best for old beasts with a lot of chrome. I really dig it. I hear California craze is to convert something like that to EV and make it an economical (skipping over the conversion cost) daily driver, dialing in whatever power you desire, just avoid the darn salt and drive. (But probably not a 17,000 mile one….). Enjoy !!
