I literally saw Pavel Rosa today, like a few hours ago, not a joke. He’s currently the assistant coach of Fribourg in the top Swiss League and they were playing a European Cup game against the Växjö Lakers, a Swedish team. The worst case scenario isn't that it's the end of his career. It's that he ends up needing to be bought out because he isn't even worth 7 million a year. That being said Adam had a point the best surgeons in the world are not in Canada. Germany is 2nd only to the USA in medical care. Also it could be something as simple as Germany being $200,000 cheaper on $3 million bill, or Matthews simply wanting out of Toronto/NHL markets for a few weeks.

I work in a library and the idea of it being weird for an adult to have a favorite kids book doesn't even compute to me. As an adult you can enjoy a cute story and cool art and marvel at the way the author is communicating a theme to a kid in a way that's approachable to them and is setting a foundation for concepts they'll understand more later in life. And even beyond that they're just fun! I really like The Capybaras by Alfredo Soderguit and Millie Fleur's Poison Garden by Christy Mandin (there's big Addams Family vibes in that one).

One thing that people may not realize about the salary cap is players already signed to deals will make less money the more the salary cap rises. If a player were to make $10m and a $95m cap means the owners owe the players 10% at the end of the year then the player gets a payment of $1m, but the same player and a $100m cap means the owners owe the players 5% then the player would only get $500k.

Not a league minimum but I'd like to see AHL minimums or more money filter down into that system and two-way contracts. It does basically nothing to the NHL team for an AHL player to have a buried $150k/yr contract vs a $57k one. But for a player, that's the decision to keep playing a year or two more, I wonder how many late bloomers get lost simply because they don't make enough in the AHL.

Yeah I wondered about that, the overturning of roe v wade, also clamped down on stem cell research in certain states i think. It's also worth mentioning he has the most expensive body parts in sports. Obviously other athletes get paid more, but they aren't so nummerically important to the well being of the franchise. An Elite Euroclub isn't salary capped. This means saving 3 games of recovery is nummerically incredibly important to the leafs.

The Oilers failed to address their goaltending as usual. They've got a good but inconsistent backup a a goalie and an outstanding 3rd goalie. Their defence got gutted in the offseason and outside of the top pairing, the puck isn't getting out of the zone clean. Edmonton also doesn't have many of the penalty killers they had in the playoffs, after losing them to free agency or trading them away. They've taken a big step backwards, where if McDavid and Draisaitl don't make it happen, nothing happens.

Question. If the Oilers continue to struggle this season after facing such a brutal loss in the Finals, is this the beginning of the end of McDavid’s tenure in Edmonton? I just don’t see any reason for him to stay. He plays in Canada, he’s on a team on the downswing while in his prime, and there’s no reason to trust management’s decisions to get the job done no matter how how close they are personally. Is a payday that’s going to be outmatched by at least 5 teams south of Kentucky and “winning with the team that drafted him” really worth staying?
