@@rickster_88 It's hard with coaches right? I mean nobody has a sure fire way of knowing what's right because NHL coaches pretty much only get 1 cup win if they get any at all their whole career because winning the cup is hard. It's the hardest and most desired trophy to win in pro sports. There's so many factors that go into winning a cup it's hard to know what's right and wrong. The one thing we know is that you can put together the perfect team, with the perfect people, and all the pieces, and still lose. How many times have we seen a team that seemed unstoppable only to see them fall to an obviously inferior team.

To explain Jarry getting the Bronx cheer as someone from Pittsburgh and know people who go to every game, our attendance this year has been basically exclusively season tickets holders. So could you imagine driving through Pittsburgh to watch the game just for the starter to give a goal first shot of the game 3 DIFFERENT TIMES and absolutely sewer your night 3 DIFFERENT TIMES? That’s what it’s like going to a Pens game this year, but at least it’s super cheap even for the game against Toronto. I paid nearly $50 less per ticket to go to a Pens Leafs game in Pittsburgh than I did the same exact time last year, same exact seats too. Glad as a Leafs fan but the homer in me really wants Crosby to get everything he deserves and life in more and this just ain’t it

The fact MLS is closing in on the NHL is beyond embarrassing
@Legend_Killer99074 күн бұрын
As a hardcore fan of all 5 of the NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL/MLS, I can tell you right now and say the MLS isn't closing on the NHL in any metric. They are struggling to even be the most popular soccer league in NA. The Premier League, La Liga, and Liga MX are three leagues that more people follow here over MLS. Adam mentioned that the MLS' revenue was catching up to the NHL's, but that's not true. For 2023, the MLS' revenue was $2 billion. The NHL's revenue last season was about $6.8 billion. That's nearly a $5 billion difference. That's not closing in my opinion.

Great episode as always guys! Just had one thing that I wanted to clear up and discuss and that's the discussion about the MLS and their deal w/Apple from someone who follows MLS closely as well. For starters, when Adam mentioned that the MLS' revenue was closing in on the NHL's, that's simply not true. Last season, MLS' revenue came in at $2 billion vs the NHL's $6.8 billion. That's a near $5 billion difference. In my opinion, that's not closing in. For comparison, last year's revenue number for both the NBA and MLB was at $10.9 billion each. The NHL's revenue is closer to those leagues than MLS is close to the NHL. MLS needs to worry about trying to become the most popular soccer league in NA first before they even can consider themselves close to the NHL. For now, they are third behind the Premier League and Liga MX in terms of following here in NA. Secondly, in regards to the deal w/Apple, DO NOT assume that MLS is thriving with that deal right now. For us hardcore fans, yes this deal has been great in terms of having everything just under one place for only one payment (if you get the whole season pass instead of the monthly pass). However, for MLS and Apple, the deal has not been working out as good as they were hoping for. Last month in London at the Leaders Week conference, Commissioner Don Garber talked about the deal and let's just say some of his answers were not encouraging. Garber’s conversation was littered with ifs. That's not a good sign from the commissioner to say the least. Rumors have it that Apple has an opt-out clause after the 5th year of the deal and one of the conditions that MLS must meet in order to avoid having Apple trigger the clause is meeting a certain number of subscribers. Unfortunately, that magic number has not been publicly revealed. As part of the deal w/Apple, if/when MLS reaches the number of subscriptions agreed with Apple, which again is a closely guarded secret, MLS will earn 50 cents on every dollar (i.e. a 50% revenue share model). That hasn't happened yet and if doesn't happen within the next three years, don't be surprised to see Apple opt-out of the deal. All this to say, while from an outsider's perspective the deal w/Apple seems to be a brilliant thing to do, and one that all other leagues should do, it hasn't been perfect. For MLS, it has been largely out of sight, out of mind for sports fans here in the States who consume their content through a mixture of television and more popular streaming services. And for fans of European leagues, those streaming services offer a range of said leagues for less cost than a subscription to MLS Season Pass.

That hail Mary offseason by the Bruins, where they lost the UFA trade with Vancouver, is why Montgomery got fired. Usually the GM fires an assistant coach and/or makes a couple trades before firing the head coach, because after that the curtain gets pulled back on the Wizard of Oz and they're cooked if things don't turn around.

A few of Steve’s comments on the Jiricek situation are spot on - this should’ve happened weeks ago, and there’s no such thing as a developmental coach. That said, lemme play advocate for a sec. Evason is letting the other young players play and make mistakes because those mistakes are coming from being fast and aggressive, and they’re working their butts off - fantilli isn’t getting benched or healthy-scratched. The guy gave Brock Faber 20+ minutes as a 21-year-old rookie (before he got fired) because he was putting the work in and he was making aggressive mistakes. There’s a fair amount of data that says jiricek’s treatment is the exception, not the rule. So what’s really going on here. You watch him on the ice - he’s slow, he’s tentative, he’s nervous, he doesn’t know what he’s doing when he doesn’t have the puck. He started training camp on the 2nd pair and very quickly got passed, by more than 1 guy. They could’ve kept Mateychuk up, he seemed like he was ready, but they’re letting him cook in the A. Malatesta could’ve stayed up, his play in preseason warranted it. Greaves was arguably the best of the 3 goalies in the preseason and he went back down. I dunno, seems like the common denominator here is David Jiricek.
