Another fascinating instrument! That seems to be operating on the same principle as the much smaller metal “jaw harp”. (I have one of those). Thanks for demonstrating this for us- and sending you wishes for a blessed Easter!

You are right! It is the same principle…just with the bow OUTSIDE the mouth!

Never heard of that instrument! The mouth harp's bigger cousin 😁

Wouldn't it be nice to try and track down which nation/tribe/clan this instrument originated from and find someone who may know a traditional song to play on it?

I would LOVE that!!….if you find ANYTHING out, please let me know! That would be SO cool🎶

@@deedeetibbits HI Deedee! I love your channel! Big fan. I play a few instruments myself, and love collecting them. I wanted to offer my perspective on this, and when I do I mean no offense to anyone. I'm Canadian First Nations. Have you heard of the recent allegations against Buffy and her native identity? A documentary, and expose was relased this year that proved she was born to an Italian family from Stoneham, Massachussets, and that she was never Cree. I grew up loving Buffy's music, and my mom has met her on 3 different occasions. I've tried to do my own research on Native American mouth bow history, and most of what I find references Buffy's claims, and I've become skeptical. There is a strong history of it's use in the Appalachians, and Africa, and I think it may have come with African slaves originally, and was introduced to the West. This is just my perspective on it, and hope I don't offend anyone! I would love to learn that it was true. Either way fantastic playing!

Thank you! Your comment is encouraging! I bought it from Glen Schultz, who made such beautiful whistles while he was alive. He’s been gone for several years now.
