Jaskier was probably my favourite character in season 1 - the comic relief that he brought into the show was what truly kept me hooked because the unraveling events were difficult to understand if you don't have the nuanced context from reading the books. Being absent for most of season 2, I missed him so much.
@ScoptOriginal3 жыл бұрын
That part on the boat where a character was criticising one of his songs, basically mocking criticism of Season 1, was the one part that made me dislike his character and I feel like that was more the creators trying to vent their frustrations over it without being called out for being butthurt. So that makes him my absolute favourite character
@observationduty3 жыл бұрын
Idk why but the writing for his character felt very bad in the later episodes. He had some really good scenes with Yen and the "fire fucker" in the beginning but after he meets Gerald , his character doesn't do anything. If you cut from the last episodes it changes literally nothing. I think they needed a way for Gerald to know about Yennifer and the Witch and after Jasker told him - he did his part and everything after that just felt like they didn't know what to do with him. His comedic relief didn't hit very well , because things were getting dark ..like Ciri murdering people ..babies being killed..you know the usual. Don't get me wrong I like both the character and the actor, I just feel they just didn't know what to do with him in the end.

Completely agree, I was so excited when he showed up. I wish he had more lines in the last episode. SPOILER: Felt like he had the chance to say something after the big battle, like he could've asked Geralt if everyone he knew were as cold as he is, or when Ciri blew him off. He just let it go with, 'Like father like daughter' I want more banter from him and it sounds like Joey could come up with some great lines for it

I already think Henry and Anya had the perfect chemistry as Geralt and Yen, but I’m also so surprised at how the real Kim Bodnia talks vs Vesemir! What a revelation. The miss would probably be Freya because it’s getting so hard to believe that she’s just “11-14 y.o.”. But thankfully her chemistry with Henry still can pass off as father-daughter affection and not the sugar daddy type.

I agree it's hard to believe she's 11-14, but I think by the end of season 2 she is supposed to be like 15 or something cause another year or so has passed (kind of, the different timespans of the different stories make it kind of hard to tell), but regardless I think of if they got an actress that actually was 11-14 and I just don't think it would work AT ALLLL the same as well as Freya and Henry work together. I think it honestly would ruin the show if she as a person was 6-9 years younger, I mean it's kind of hard to have a show this gritty and dark and then have a literal child as the main character. Like Ciri is already moody enough sometimes (as she should be haha), that if they made her that much younger I think a lot of that emotional despondence and tension between them would just come off as a whiney child acting up and not in a good way. Lolol I agree though I'm glad it doesn't come off as the sugar daddy type hahaha

my only problem with casting is Freya as well. not a serious problem, it's just after season 2 there's something a bit not right with her portrayal, she sometimes has this little smirks when she acts which kinda bothers me. but as you said, at least her chemistry with Henry feels right, a father-daughter bonding. it also bothers me that she's wearing so much make up in her age, they put some on Ciri as well, and it's obvious that she's wearing some, which I think not a best decision given Ciri was supposed to be a pre-teen.

I started watching witcher because of the games and ofc Henry Cavill, but the moment Anya walked into the ball as the mage Yennefer, suddenly the show was all about her for me. Gonna watch s2 for her and how amazing the show is! 😍❤️ [It's rare to see an actor of your color complexion playing a badass woman so incredibly good, like wow!]

Props to the Witcher crew for actually listening to the fans critiques from season one and making things even better. Most today will get defensive and blame the fan base for having to high expectations and calling them names. From Changing Geralts hair to adding more monsters.
@rekaviles3 жыл бұрын
I don't know about the hair but adding monster to a show cost a ton of money and not surprising that was lacking in a first season of a show they didn't know how well it would do. Props should have been given to what they were able to pull off in a first seasons - so many don't past that 1st due to ppl nit-picking every details and bailing because of it.

None of the people that read the books, played the games or have been long time Witcher fans loved this season. Besides the obvious raise in budget and production quality, the writing was absolute garbage...

@rekaviles3 жыл бұрын
@@suspendedtwice4sayingrasis261 Well, then I hope enough casual fans watched to offset that so they can keep making it. They're not making these shows for only the fan base, they can't follow the lore to the letter. Shows have to cater to the masses and a large group need corny dialogue to feel instant connection to the characters (that they are completely unfamiliar with).

Just watched the Episode were Jaskier returns. I really hope they have recorded a full version of "Burn" somewhere and not just the beats they needed for the scene and what little time they had for the end credits. The song really needs to be a full on ballad with at least 6 minutes length. ;)

Anya is a top notch actress. Love it when she drops the F + S bombs so classy yet you can feel the rage and chaos within. Always makes me chuckle when they drop those F and S bombs like its awkward and so out of the time setting / period. Especially when Ciri is repairing the bridge and drops 3 F bombs. So cute yet full of anger and frustration. The F-word was recorded in a dictionary in 1598 (John Florio’s A Worlde of Wordes, London: Arnold Hatfield for Edw. Blount). It is remotely derived from the Latin futuere and Old German ficken/f*cken meaning ‘to strike or penetrate’, which had the slang meaning to copulate. Eric Partridge, a famous etymologist, said that the German word was related to the Latin words for pugilist, puncture, and prick.
@oberstmoos4253 жыл бұрын
Thought the same but the I reconsidered. Are the S and F bombs really all that out of period or do we just think that because of other medieval style Media. I didnt do any Research on this so feel free to correct me. Was just thinking it may not be as strange as I thought
@Kakashi19-693 жыл бұрын
@@oberstmoos425 well its their delivery. the way they curse is very modern. but yeah we do not have a comparison for medieval speech other than movies, theater. it could be all the same or much worse how they say F you back in medieval times

I've just finished season 2 for the second time (yeah I'm a little obsessed) and I have to say the acting was superb across the board... but Freya Allan really sold Ciri to me this season and was a standout. The first two seasons are really building these characters and I hope it carries on for another 5 seasons to finish this wonderful story. A lot of writing for female characters makes them powerful off the bat (see the Force Awakens or Captain Marvel for exhibit A and B) and not have to go through any trials or pain on the way to becoming this all-powerful character... but with Ciri we clearly see her struggling the first two seasons and training at Kaer-Morhen with the Witchers was brutal, but she kept on trying and not giving up. Ciri is a character who spends years training and going so through so much pain and loss along the way, and having the weight of the world on her shoulders as well. Being guided by Geralt and Yen helps her realise her potential and takes the burden off her. This is at the heart of The Witcher stories. Geralt and Yen can't have children and Ciri lost her parents and family and home... it's very much a dysfunctional family story lol I think the writers have done a great job building this character the first two seasons... and Freya embodies Ciri well. Ciri could go down as one of the best (superpowered) female characters of all time if they keep this up.
