My entire life, I've witnessed OHA and DHHL provide minimal assistance to majority of the Hawaiian community. I grew up in Waianae, one of the few populace cities of Native Hawaiians on the island of Oahu. We did an Awa ceremony with Skippy about 15 years ago. The sociology teacher invited him to speak in our class the next day. My grandparents on both side died on the list nothing awarded, both my parents died on the list after being beneficiaries of their parents on the list, im 42 years and the beneficiaries of my mom who was the beneficiary of my grandfather and still nothing. I went into the Dhhl office to see what the circumstances of leaving a beneficiary for me in case god forbid something happens to me but found out my daughter cannot be a benefactor because she is only 45 percent kanaka. So my ohana place on the list dies with me. I cannot already. All my kupuna are passing away and now my generation as well and nothing is being done to help the people meanwhile all my Ohana is being priced out of our homes and communities where our families have lived for generations.
