I don't really think anyone would read this, but I just want to thank Daughter for being this amazing band, my favorite band for almost 6 years. I don't think I will ever have the oportunity to see them live, it makes me a bit sad, but I am really grateful anyways. Their songs helped me in my worst times, dealing with the worst I could bear, in times I thought that I wasn't gonna be there in the next day. Thank you for everything. Best song of the album, with melancholic vocals and lyrics. I love how the tempo raises and the chorus gradually increases in volume. It's so effective, I was moving my head to the rhythm despite the hopelessness of the lyrics.

Outside of the lyrics by Jordan Dreyer from La Dispute, I don't think I've heard a song quite like this, where it really feels like a poem set to music. There's a palpable shift as it heads into the gang vocals, yet the music barely changes. It's all in the words. That's not unusual for Daughter, but there's a disarming looseness to the lyrical structure here that sets it apart. I don't want to be one of those people that credits a lead performer for the hard work of an entire band, but I have to say this: Elena Tonra is absolutely brilliant.

They don't do many interviews, so you usually have to rely on interpretations of the lyrics. Considering how many songs Elena has written for both Daughter and Ex:Re reflecting on previous relationships, I immediately felt like this is about the fear and uncertainty she felt leaving a relationship that was impacting her mental health. It's all there in the first verse: "We're so blue, my Neptune / So I'll remove, for future hands" - the relationship's dragged Elena into a 'sea' of depression, and in realising that, she decides it's time to leave. "To clasp gold, fading glow / Before I start to smash my head up" - she'll head to the surface, to a new chance for happiness, before the 'blue' feelings she has destroy her. In the end, she leaves, but is hit with the sudden sense of being truly alone and, I think, questions how much love there is left for her to find in the world: "I felt it through the walls, I finally made it out... I heard it through the walls, was like a last fade out, wait / Whispers / Answers / There's no one / Out there." She opens talking about a fading glow - a chance at happiness - then ends with a reference to a fade out, as if her last chance of happiness was the relationship she left. Of course, we know that's not the case, but a lot of people get stuck in the kind of relationships that mess with their head in this way. If you're interested, another song that nails (what I interpret as) the theme here is Mr Blue by Catherine Feeny, a song that brings me close to tears when I so much as think about it (though it's masterful use at the end of Bojack Horseman is partly to blame for that).

@@osidiusemphatic3505 My other interpretation refers to a sort of double-faced, a mask to hide her dark side, or the 'blue side' in this case, which she calls Neptune. Her other part that's hidden and doesn't let it out, but while trying to make one last effort to go on, she hides it again so that it's not visible once more, creating a mirror of herself where it's not truly her, just a mirage. Even so, she wonders who loses, who hides, or who dies of pain?
