Question. If your already cleansing the nail why do you have to go back in with nail remover to cleanse it again? That just seems like ur doing a double cleanse and taking up extra time. Just asking cause I’m prepping for Ohio state boards this week.

This is such a great resource! Thank you for posting. Is that sand filled glove what the state board requires you to use during the test? Not a practice hand?

This particular glove is filled with cornmeal, state board does not allow the use of a practice hand , I wish they did but they do not unfortunately

Can you use one polish for top and base coat or does it have to be two different ones ?

Also for implements that aren’t disposable do you bring your own container for them to be placed in once finished being used for anything that is unsanitary ?

Your going to place all used implements in a bag (trash bag) when the testing is complete you grab the whole bag and take it with you- now you will be taping the paper bag to the desk which is used for all disposable implements. That one is collected at the end and thrown in the trash can.

Can I use fast drying polish?

Yes as long as it the colors you are allowed to use the that are permitted, but you should have the fast drying spray that comes in your kit.

Hi I have questions, can you please help; how can I label the implements ( writing on top box or ziplock bag ) allow or not? And also can I use barbicide disinfectants? Do we need separate trash bag and reused implements bags separately.

Yes it is allowed, but when you get to the state board for testing all of your implements will go in the drawer, but keep your bio hazard/ blood spill kit on the left hand corner of your testing station and be sure it’s labeled with a black permanent marker

I have a question regarding reciprocity, if someone has a license and they're coming from a state with an hourly requirement of 300 to 400 for licensing, how do they transfer their license over to an Ohio license?

If you go somewhere where the license requires more hours, you can work temporarily I want to say up to 1 yr but if you plan on staying you will need to meet that states requirements. Unfortunately each state is different

Use dehydrator before putting your nail tip on. Only use cuticle oil after the sculpted nail.

No, it’s not mandatory but wearing them do show cleanliness- I wore them.

That’s a great question yes you will need to bring two hands the first hand is the hand that you will manicure and polish red or pink and the second hand is the one that you will be doing the tip, The wrap and also the sculpted nail

Exactly what I have shown here is what I was taught and is also in the text book- also when doing a manicure I don’t see how you can clean under the nails without the nail brush. The rules may have changed bc I graduated 2 years ago.

I noticed that in a couple of videos for Ohio State board testing you guys are using plastic gloves do you have to use a plastic glove or can you bring your own mannequin hand?

The mannequin hands are no longer permitted you do have to use a rubber glove filled with corn meal flower rice oatmeal which ever one of those you prefer sand but yes you do have to have the glove

Yes I highly suggest you bring a small bottle of water and after you fill your finger bowl out the water bottle into the trash bin do not leave it on your table

They really only teach the bare minimum, that’s why in my Chanel I try my best to help anyone who may need it. My shook was the same way, I just got close with my instructor and she helped me a little more.
