I can explain very easily. Subject was told to stop so the officer could do his job. The subject pretended at first not to hear the officer and tried to get to his front door and get in the house. This is a common misconception that if a police officer is trying to stop you, if you can get inside of your house, they cannot follow you. But this is not true under the Fresh Pursuit doctrine. Once the subject realized he was not going to make it inside he started to spin around, according to the officer the subject had the weapon in his hand, the officer was able to fire his weapon and not all of the rounds went into the subject's back. The wounds were consistent with a person who was in the process of blading himself. I am hoping the officer is found not guilty. The moral of the story is that when a police officer gives you a command, you need to follow their directions and you will not get harmed.

While I completely agree with you, if I was that deputy and I truly was innocent, I'd want something to help me out and prove my innocence. Like body cam. I don't know if deputies are required to have it, but law enforcement needs to realize that body cams benefit both the citizen AND them! Because who knows? Maybe he pointed the gun at the cop, then turned away right as the cop started firing. Do I believe that? Not in a million years. But video doesn't lie and if the deputy was required to wear his body cam and simply didn't turn it on (like they always do when they're about to do wrong), then too bad for the deputy. As of now, we have a man shot in the back six times. I'm not sure how one justifies that.

Newsflash...it does look bad. Waving his gun around in the car? Would you wave your gun around in the car in close enough proximity for a police officer to clearly see this, and then casually get out of your vehicle and enter your house? If the defence is referring to a man who was walking from his parked car into his home with a couple of sandwiches and his car keys in his hands while listening to music on his headphones and NOT breaking any laws whatsoever, as a "gunman", it's pretty obvious they are desperately trying to make the victim sound like a "big bad black man with a gun" to justify what seems like a pretty straightforward homicide. The idea that he was "waiving his gun around" seems very hard to believe.

I'm really trying to keep an open mind and would hope the deputy is required to wear a body cam. To me, if I were in law enforcement, I'd WANT to have a body cam all the time, for situations exactly like this. If I'm actually innocent or at least could prove, "Hey, I messed up, but you would have done the same thing in my situation", I'd want video to help me prove that. Without video evidence, it's really hard to believe the deputy. So he was carrying sandwiches, car keys, was listening to music AND was waving a gun too? I mean, it's possible, but sounds like bs. Again, yet another reason why video would help. Without it, all I see is a man who was shot in the back six times. Kinda hard to justify that.

Let's say in the rare chance he heard the cop. It still doesn't justify him being a threat. 1) He has sandwiches and keys in his hands to open the door so there is no way he can also be hold a gun. 2)The defense attorney claims he was a threat to the officer. You can't be a threat to anyone if they decide to follow you home. No one follows someone they fear they run away. 3) He was shot in his back on his way to opening the door. If your back is turned away from someone how can you be any threat to them that should give you enough time to get in your car and drive away. 4) Why did subway not call the police if they saw a man that was a threat? 5)Why wasn't the police body camera on or the dash camera on. It's clear this officer from the moment he saw Mr Goodman with a gun going to subway he saw a target a perfect target with a gun as an excused to take his life. And proceeded with his actions. Decided not to keep all video footage off🎦. To cover his tracks. 5)His department should also be investigated to see if there was indeed footage and if it was covered up/erased. Also check prior footage from the officers previous interactions of all the officers in that department.

@@DarkPassenger You're 100% right and I mentioned this earlier. If a person is threatening the life of someone else, then a cop can be justified in shooting them in the back. In THIS case, however, we know 1. that the cop (deputy) said HE was in fear for his life. He wasn't worrying about anyone else. 2. he was carrying keys in one hand in sandwiches in another. #2 begs the question, was he really carrying a gun like the cop said he was? This is why I've always said that if I were a cop, I'd actually want my body cam rolling all the time. Well let me rephrase that: if I were an honest cop! Because life is strange sometimes. Maybe the kid pointed the gun at the cop and as the cop raised his gun to shoot, the kid turned his back to him. The cop already told his hand to shoot and he let out six quick shots and maybe he really wasn't lying. It just seems a tad far fetched and without video, all we have is a man who was confirmed to have keys in one hand and sandwiches is another and was shot in the back six times. Without at least dropping your sandwiches and keys? It is possible that the officer could think he was in fear of his life if the deceased was outside and the firearm was in his hand. But inside his door with his hands full? The policeman will almost certainly not be convicted of murder...but he will most likely be convicted of a lesser offense and never be a policeman again. And the city will almost certainly be sued for "wrongful death" by any survivors the victim may have. And one point which should be self evident...The DEAD GUY is the Victim! Possessing a firearm doesn't make you a "gunman" unless you want to start calling every police officer a Gunman.

Shot in the back, through a door, while the guy was holding keys and some sandwiches. That really casts doubt on the credibility of the officer's side of the story. One potential lesson to take away from this is that if you're going to carry, then don't intentionally dull your sense of hearing so that you can respond to a threat. Poor guy.

How come that the Police became such a threat that you claim everyone needs to be acutely aware of their surroundings, and if by chance a cop screams, even if they are inside their homes, carrying sandwiches, they are supposed to instantly throw away the food, drop to their knees, hands raised, and hope to God the cop don't shoot them anyway - on the back? Multiple times? How come that the Police became an entity with a right to shoot anyone because *an officer was afraid?*

The law is that a person actually does not need to be in danger, but just has to reasonable believe that his life is in danger. Otherwise, self defense becomes a crime and people will always have to be either severely injured or dead before they can "legally" defend themselves. It's unfortunate that so many cops use that to get away with blatantly unjustified shootings.... but it's also a protection for regular people that use lethal force in self defense. (Just like if a man robs a bank with a BB gun, they don't charge the security guard or citizen for shooting the robber, because their lives weren't really in danger, because it was only a BB gun).
