Imagine seeing this in 2056 and going, wow. That happened 100 years ago, this was soo long ago, it’s before LEGO was a hit, moon landing, Alcatraz outbreak and this was during segregation, when I look at it, doesn’t seem like long ago, but titanic and WW2 survivors were in their 50-70s. And when I put these events after this. It gives it more of a understanding of how long ago this was.

From Wikipedia: "The Lego Group began manufacturing the interlocking toy bricks in 1949". They were probably a hit by 1956 - if only in Denmark. Colour TV, on the other hand, first arrived in Denmark by 1967 and it took quite a few years to replace B/W in most homes.

one of the great tosumb traditions that goes unnoticed imho is the saluting of the opposing school. plenty of bands play a little of the other team's fight song, but i've yet to see any band across the country do a complete verse of the tune while also doing a formation of that school's emblem, mascot, etc. and this film proves that it was happening back in the 50's as well as today. truly, tbdbitl. ;)

its cool that it hasnt changed much over all this time. you can def see signs of the times. cheerleaders with long skirts and not really any flips as they do now. the band is smaller for sure, and they seem to be working in a much smaller area then now. i will say its more uniform now as in how sharp the movements are. you can tell over the years they added movements like when they do a 90 degree turn. its quite cool and good you found this to compare.

Not unusual for home films of that era to be sped up a bit...that could be easily corrected...but watch the precision of the marching...the straight lines and diagonals as the march down the field. Yes...it’s easier with a smaller group...but still impressive.

It realy interesting take on the band back then....each row entering ramp position from both sides of block formation...long version of Beautiful Ohio instead of short version, different ramp cadence...all back before space race, vietnam, youngest potus, and 1st moon landing 13 years later....and 2 years before I was even born.

@freeman3320

Sadly, Things are not as they appear to be concerning this video. I know that the tempo of this ramp was not this fast in real life. In other words, The tape has been speeded up somehow during the transcription process. I know that the cadence was slower originally because the pitch of the music is higher on this recording. In other words, as everyone knows, the pitch will be raised if the tape moves more quickly over the heads. You can prove this inaccuracy if you compare the pitch on this video to the pitch of a piano. This is perfectly understandable when you consider the great amount of time that has passed since 1956.

@MJ2420

The pitch is correct. The drummers just came out of the tunnel with lots of adrenaline resulting in a 200 bpm tempo. Note that by the time they got to the south stands, the tempo had slowed to 180. It happened to us sometimes in the late 70s, too. Also, note that after the Banner, the rest of the pregame is non-stop segues at 180 bpm. These guys were in shape!
