Please. Why would he leave? Ohio State is WRU and if you are a starter on that team it means you are 1st rd pick guaranteed. You’d be stupid to leave them when Ohio State can pay you AND grow your brand/career. Also, it’s pretty illegal to tamper with players who are currently signed with another team and who hasn’t entered to transfer portal. If he was in the transfer portal, by all means, but he isn’t.

He’s not going to leave but if a high level program offered him triple what Ohio state does I could see the logic in leaving. Jeremiah doesn’t need Ohio state, he’s a guaranteed lock for top 5 when he’s draft eligible barring some insane injury. Yes Ohio state produces great WRs but they need him more than he needs them, even if he hypothetically took a hit numbers wise by transferring to let’s say LSU or Michigan, it wouldn’t hurt his draft stock one bit.

The college football world needs to listen to Coach Saban about getting a handle on NIL and the xfer portal.
@NebulaNestDIY
@NebulaNestDIY 9 күн бұрын
Notice that Saban never complained about all the SEC deals with ESPN and CBS over the years which gave them many televised games and a huge advantage for southern teams due to demographics and the recruiting power it gave them. NIL is the balance of power over the television deals.... When Saban says something needs to be done.. What he means is something needs to be done to favor the SEC...
@songsmithy07
@songsmithy07 8 күн бұрын
@@NebulaNestDIY I beg to differ. Saban read the tea leaves and knew everything was going to change forever and he didn't want to stick around for it. When he was head coach, he did his job better than anybody before him. Now, he is in a position to speak his mind about what's going on, and he has pertinent insights into NIL and the transfer portal from a coaching perspective. Change was a long time coming. The players were getting screwed before NIL. Still, what Saban is saying is not wrong. Starting with this season, everything has changed. Yes, it is all driven by Sports TV deals, but that doesn't mean the outcome can't be awesome. And between you and me, I don't think there's any danger of the SEC fading away like some shrinking violet. FBS level college football is in transition. It's going to get tweeked here and there. The seeding sure needs to change. Anyway, Saban can say out loud what university coaches can't. I think we'll start hearing from more and more coaches if Saban breaks the ice.

It’s tampering, but since its teams talking to agents, who then suggest it to players/their clients, it is a semi-tampering loophole. Can’t punish a team if a random alumni of theirs post on X “I’ll pay 5 mil to this player if they went to my school”. That’s why we need to go to revenue sharing and player/team caps.

The need a salary cap rule per school moving forward. If not college football will only be for the elite schools with deep donor pockets or large alumni bases. That is an arms race to nowhere. Kids need to be compensated. The NCAA and schools exploited student athletes for far too long without any compensation. They could have avoided this situation years ago if they hadn't been greedy. Schools were ok paying head coaches $10M annually but nothing to the athletes making the sacrifice.

The same thing is happening now to the Big Ten. People are chalking up the conferences recent run of success as “paying more money than other teams.” That’s only one factor though, which isn’t even entirely true (and also, it’s not illegal now).

As a Notre Dame fan, some fans say we are too critical of Christian Grey for that Smith play, cos he had no safety help over top and left on a complete island. Despite this fact, I don't think his footwork looks right and ripe to be burned at times

no one should be critical of that young man, hes supposed to be guarding the best wide receiver in the country 1 on 1?? almost guaranteed smith was gonna get a first down if the ball was thrown anywhere near him.

I know we live in a new place that's unstable in CFB because of money but I don't think it's as simple as we think. JJ Smith is not your average player. Stability means something to him and his development. I'm not saying people don't have a price but he said going back to his recruitment As long as Hartline and Ryan Day are at Ohio State so will he. Some schools tried prioritizing money over development, throwing money at players and none of those schools cashed in a national championship.

@Trey-o2m I speak only what I know. People mentioning x amounts of dollars around isn't shocking to hear in this matrix we're living in. Any player with that type of status is going to do their due diligence and rightly so. None of us in the comments sections knows for sure what amounts are being discussed. It has NOTHING to do with being closer to home if so he would be closer if you followed his recruitment like most did back when he was winning track and field jumps for his HS in FL. I don't have to know anyone personally to exercise common logic. Especially when it's already been discussed and talked about at length a year and a half ago.

I like how this is a problem now. For the last 20 years all the best players went to a couple of the calleges. OSU- ALABAMA- GEORGIA. and that was not a problem. I always said if you league's paying players, schools with the most money will be the best. Not the schools paying the NCAA to look the other way.

Outside of that, it's basically the same seven or eight teams every year from the SEC or the Big ten. Just go back and look at the past 10 years before this nil started.

Make Nick Saban commissioner, he’s old school and truly loves the game. Allow him to help make changes quickly that benefit college football and preserve the game for what it’s supposed to be. 1 transfer window a year, a fair salary cap system in place and find a way to make the bowl games outside of the playoffs worth something again.

F1 Racing was being dominated by Mercedes for years, then F1 introduced a cap in 2021 to make the sport more financially sustainable and to level the playing field between race teams. Programs like Ohio State are buying titles before the caps come in and the coaches will have to out coach each other rather than out spend each other.

Sorry but I haven’t seen enough of Smith to make an assessment. Trust me, if Randy Moss was on Ohio State, he would never have a game being held to 3 yards. Doesn’t matter if he’s in triple coverage. Doesn’t matter if the coach isn’t calling plays to him. Moss would say to the coach “Throw me the ball, I’ll score.” I haven’t seen that from Smith yet. So I wouldn’t pay anything more than 1-2 mil or whatever the going rate is for a typical 5 star. You’re going to severely cripple your team if you’re paying one player half your budget.

Regulations or a "salary cap" is a great idea and all, but how hard is it going to be to keep track of any 'under the table' deals that get done? Schools have been illegally paying players long before the NIL and getting away with it, what's going to stop that from continuing to happen even if there's a cap? In the end I don't think regulations are going to make much of a difference.

The same way locked doors deter a criminal. Yeah, it’s not always going to work, but it deters the common criminal enough. Teams will still cheat just like before but they’ll get caught and hit with sanctions and penalties like Penn State did, USC, Miami, Louisville (basketball), etc.
