Notice that Saban never complained about all the SEC deals with ESPN and CBS over the years which gave them many televised games and a huge advantage for southern teams due to demographics and the recruiting power it gave them. NIL is the balance of power over the television deals.... When Saban says something needs to be done.. What he means is something needs to be done to favor the SEC...
@songsmithy078 күн бұрын
@@NebulaNestDIY I beg to differ. Saban read the tea leaves and knew everything was going to change forever and he didn't want to stick around for it. When he was head coach, he did his job better than anybody before him. Now, he is in a position to speak his mind about what's going on, and he has pertinent insights into NIL and the transfer portal from a coaching perspective. Change was a long time coming. The players were getting screwed before NIL. Still, what Saban is saying is not wrong. Starting with this season, everything has changed. Yes, it is all driven by Sports TV deals, but that doesn't mean the outcome can't be awesome. And between you and me, I don't think there's any danger of the SEC fading away like some shrinking violet. FBS level college football is in transition. It's going to get tweeked here and there. The seeding sure needs to change. Anyway, Saban can say out loud what university coaches can't. I think we'll start hearing from more and more coaches if Saban breaks the ice.

Make Nick Saban commissioner, he’s old school and truly loves the game. Allow him to help make changes quickly that benefit college football and preserve the game for what it’s supposed to be. 1 transfer window a year, a fair salary cap system in place and find a way to make the bowl games outside of the playoffs worth something again.

@0:57 when Pat says "up their salary cap" kind forgot he was talking about CFB and not MLB or NFL...🙃 Although no amount of money can still GUARANTEE W's, College football will NEVER be the same and it's so sad to see.. but Go Bucks!

F1 Racing was being dominated by Mercedes for years, then F1 introduced a cap in 2021 to make the sport more financially sustainable and to level the playing field between race teams. Programs like Ohio State are buying titles before the caps come in and the coaches will have to out coach each other rather than out spend each other.

How can Miami pay Beck and Smith nine million dollars?
@dankcoyote9 күн бұрын
Sorry but I haven’t seen enough of Smith to make an assessment. Trust me, if Randy Moss was on Ohio State, he would never have a game being held to 3 yards. Doesn’t matter if he’s in triple coverage. Doesn’t matter if the coach isn’t calling plays to him. Moss would say to the coach “Throw me the ball, I’ll score.” I haven’t seen that from Smith yet. So I wouldn’t pay anything more than 1-2 mil or whatever the going rate is for a typical 5 star. You’re going to severely cripple your team if you’re paying one player half your budget.
@RobertGasper-g4l8 күн бұрын
Smith can go anywhere else and have the ball thrown to him 4x more. I often thought during the season that this kid will leave.
@zibbitybibbitybop9 күн бұрын
Smith isn't going anywhere, he probably took one look at Harrison Jr. being a top pick and making the big bucks in the pros and said "I'ma do what he did".

Every college football program can throw NIL money around. Player choose Ohio State because Ohio State wins and became Ohio State develops NFL level talent.

This is why college football is so lopsided. Small schools are just there for big schools to practice. It's like a varsity team playing 7th graders.

I just think it’s funny that there are folks that think NIL payments are “new” to college football… nah, they’ve been there a while - it’s just now transparent and anyone can play in if they have the donors. 😂

The prices for these college athletes are going to $20 million plus in a 5-10 years. You going to have to pay year to year or someone else will.

@cevans3969 күн бұрын
31 mil? The number keeps growing 🤦♂️ It was 20-22 mil and they were one of multiple teams who did this. Texas and Oregon also had 20+ mil rosters. Penn state and Miami also have some pricy rosters. It’s the modern day cfb
@jasongothard56246 күн бұрын
@ that’s the number Ryan Day said he would need at the end of the previous season. Downs then gets what 2 mil to transfer from Alabama?

Regulations or a "salary cap" is a great idea and all, but how hard is it going to be to keep track of any 'under the table' deals that get done? Schools have been illegally paying players long before the NIL and getting away with it, what's going to stop that from continuing to happen even if there's a cap? In the end I don't think regulations are going to make much of a difference.
@cevans3969 күн бұрын
The same way locked doors deter a criminal. Yeah, it’s not always going to work, but it deters the common criminal enough. Teams will still cheat just like before but they’ll get caught and hit with sanctions and penalties like Penn State did, USC, Miami, Louisville (basketball), etc.
