You mean trout right? The same way a sockeye that is landlocked is a kokanee, a rainbow trout that is landlock is still just a rainbow trout.

By your logic, so are the West Coast hatchery fish that compete with wild steelies. They are transplanted, therefore, are not eligible for the title of being a real Steelhead. What do you do about a brown a coho and an Atlantic they don’t have titles based on salinity. Our “bows” are genetically the same as western and Canadian fish.
@ericklagos1431 Жыл бұрын
@andrewwebster13 are you okay in the 🧠 our transplanted fish still go out to the salt which makes them a steelhead.
@ericklagos1431 Жыл бұрын
@andrewwebster13 also something can be genetically the same and still be very inferior. Just take a look at the kings and silvers caught in the great lakes tributaries. As soon as they hit the rivers theyre dark, meat is pink. Our fish actually go to the salt so they hold up a lot better.

Erick: You just commented that a King Salmon in the Great Lakes is a King ... and yet a Steelhead in the Great Lakes is not a Steelhead. Have you ever caught a natural reproduced 35 Lb Lake Michigan King Salmon or 20 Lb natural reproduced Steelhead from a free flowing Michigan River? Steelhead are a spectacular fish - why not respect them whether they Migrate from the Ocean of from the Great Lakes.

Great fish dudes! But, man you need to handle the fish you’re releasing much better. Your net is way too small. Why the hell are putting fish for release in 2” of mud water??? Don’t carry them in the net out of the water for any amount of time like you did. You guys have learned how to become good anglers, now learn how to release a fish and give it its best shot at survival.

Sorry man, just got into steelhead fishing this year and working on figuring it out. This was one of our first times catching a lot steelhead and we are improving each and every time we go out. Thanks for watching
