I ditched my club razors. My wife thought I was insane buying a Rockwell T2 and a brush with soap. When she asked if she could use it on her legs she told me to buy myself a new one. Shaving with a safety razor is the best.

My brother and I have both been using a no brand safety razor (maybe van der Hagen?) for the past 3 years. About 4 months ago, I upgraded to a razo rock lupo 95 and oh my goodness the difference is massive. The lupo just glides over my face so so smoothly, and never catches on anything unlike the previous razor. I saw your last video a couple days ago, and heard about that deal with Rockwell, and I just jumped on the whole 6s shaving kit to give my brother for Christmas. I’m sure I will be pretty jealous once i try the 6s, but I just couldn’t justify buying one for myself because the lupo does do such a good job for myself. But I am extremely excited for it to come in, and just had to say that the kit from Rockwell comes with absolutely everything you could need for wet shaving and with his discount code, I got everything shipped to my door for $119! Great deal!

Years ago when I was in the military, the old-timers would keep telling me to use a safety razor....but being young, I never would do it. I wished I would've listened back then....years of skin irritations could have saved myself.

The only reason why I used Gillette mach 3 was because the military put a ban on having DE blades so no safety razors from boot camp forward. My dad who served in the Marines told me the ban was taking place in the 70’s when he got out. Because some service members were using them as weapons and suicide. Now I have his Gillette Fatboy from when he entered Boot camp in 1950. But I use my T2 the most.

I bought the hype for years about Cartridge razors. My neck and face were constantly. Irritated irritated and had a lot of ingrown hairs all the time. But when I made the switch to safety razors, it took me a little time to get the right combination. But oh, the health of my skin is so much better and so much smoother and so much more comfortable. I would recommend that everyone shave with the safety razor, you just have to be patient at first until you Learn how to use it and what combination is best for you.

'You have to have a dexterity of a cave troll to not being able to use the safety razor' I remember someone had typed it on the internet and I think it's the most truthful statement about safety razors. I struggle to get cut by them, they are literally so easy to use.

So glad I found your channel. Been a subscriber just shy of a year. 30+ years of hating to shave and always using a piece of junk mass produced razor. Started using a Henson as my first safety razor, taking your advice with all the skincare products. Shave oil, witch hazel aftershave (Thayer’s) and Nivea shave balm! I actually look forward to shaving now that I have a routine with products that don’t turn my skin into a racing drag strip. I’m now a proud owner of a Leaf Twig that does excellent precision shaving around my winter beard and I use a Rockwell 6C that I’ll return to once beard weather is over. Talked my wife into using my Henson on her legs and she loves it. She doesn’t know it yet but I bought her a Leaf triple blade for Christmas. My son’s have expressed interest after months of trying to convince them to try it. I’m giving them Leaf Twigs for Christmas.

Started early this year with a Henson mild and it was a game changer. As others have said, it went from a daily chore to one of the best parts of my day. It has become a bit of an obsession. My collection of razors has grown to 10 razors (plus 11 that I have purchased for friends and family) 7 brushes, and over 40 soaps. No signs of slowing down 😂

my shaving has gone from something i dreaded. to an experience i enjoy i'm even relaxed after i finish. well i switced as i am boycotting gillette and never found any other cartridge i like so i thought there must be better DE razors and there were back in 1985, this is also why i will not get a razor with the tabs that stick out. so i started searching youtube videos to see if people have posted anything about safety razors, this was almost a year ago. when i came across your videos, you had many head to head shaves half your face for each, this gave me the best comparrison to go with. the last thing that sold me was the ingrown hairs, i always thought was just adult acne. so my very first shave i had was with an asta blade (didn't know they were gillete) and wilkison metal razor with paraso sensitive soap, thayers and nivea post shave balm and was really impressed. Couldn't wait anymore for my Henson AL13 to get here. By the time my AL13 got here i had no razor burn left and people were noticing the difference. i've converted 4 so far due to this.

Great video and advice. I bought the multi-blade hype all my life until I made the jump into DE last January, at 67 years old. Every word you say is true! Like many have said on many shaving channels, shaving is now enjoyable and something I look foward to rather than avoid.

Been watching you for awhile and then I subscribed. I was a customer of Dollar Shave club. They changed up their blades and it no longer worked for me. So I made the move and will not go back. Your videos helped with that decision. Purchased a Henson medium aggression. Soon after I followed that up with a Rockwell T2. Love the lightness of the Henson and how it's almost impossible to cut yourself. Great starter razor. Then there is the Rockwell. The weight means it cuts with no pressure from me. And being able to dial in the aggression give me a great custom shave. And you are right, shaving is no longer a chore. It is a pleasurable experience. Still trying different blades (in both razors), so far Astra seems to work best for me. And then there are all the different shave soaps. I fill my shave soap bowl with hot water and let my badger hair brush soak in it while I shower. Always get some great lather. Follow up with the alum block and yes I do like to finish with the Thayer's. So keep those shave videos coming. Love for you to do more blade comparisons and shave soap reviews.

I did not know that the dollar shave club changed their blades. You're the first one to recognize it. Do you think that buying the Henson first helped you hone in on your technique which made you a better shaver when you got your Rockwell T2? More blade and sub comparisons coming. Thanks for your support

Great video. I am 72 and just started using a safety razor almost 2 years ago. I use to use a Norelco since I started shaving as a teen. I was afraid of cutting myself with a safety razor. The first time I used a razor with a blade was when I was in the Air Force at basic training as we were discouraged from using an electric. I don’t remember what I used but, I went back to electric after basic training. I was afraid of cutting myself with a safety razor. Eventually The newer the Norelco razor models got worse in performance. I then tried cartridge razors and got a closer shave but lots of irritation. I then tried a safety razor and found out how easy it was to use. After trying several razors, I settled with the Rockwell 6s as my everyday razor. I start with the 4 plate for the first pass then the 3 plate and finish with the 2 plate. This gives me a great fantastic, comfortable, irritation free shave with no cuts or weepers. Als the variety of artisan soaps and aftershaves is fantastic. My favorites are from PAA. Have a great Thanksgiving and keep the videos coming.🦃🦃🦃

did my first shave with a full kit today, got my TOBS soap, rockwell pre shave oil, synthetic brush and alum block in the mail yesterday after a week of figuring out the henson using harry's canned shave gel. What a difference! the alum block blew my mind sealing up a little nick on my chin in seconds. About an hour after shaving i did notice a little flare up around my jaw line, so i went back in with a second post shave round: cold water and alum block, then thayers and nivea balm and i've pretty much gotten rid of it! the razor alone was already making a huge difference, but now i feel like i'm gonna be able to master the technique in no time and say buhbye to razor burn forever. Listen to Dave fellow newbies! get the full kit, don't skimp on the prep! take your time, learn your face, and you'll be getting BBS in no time! Im still figuring out what works best for my face, but i'm still getting closer and cleaner shaves then i ever did with a cartridge razor, afte ronly a week and investing in all the right products.

After buying 50+ safety razors over the years, I bought a Tatara Masamuni Nodachi. My search for the perfect safety razor is over. I have many high end razors and I’m selling them all except for the Nodachi. Expensive, but really worth it, IMHO.

I switched to a safety razor recently and just finished my first shave with it and wow. That was actually the best and closest shave I have ever gotten in my life. I didn’t even use an expensive one, I used goodlines double safety razor with some proraso and it was amazing. I’m never going back.

Great format! I did the math I belonged to a shave club. My initial investment was around 170 bucks for a safety razor blades and soap. my shave club annual cost was 18 dollars a month. So it cost me 220 dollars per year. Now 100 blades lasts me a whole year and a tub of shaving soap lasts about year too. So now I pay about 30 dollars a year to have a BBS shave. And the closest thing to a straight razor shave.

DE shaving is fantastic. The biggest improvement for me is how the condition of my facial skin improved-dramatically! I do the pre-shave scrub, the shave of course, the aftershave alum wipe, then Thayers witch hazel, and finally a balm. Not sure which one of those products improved my skin; maybe it’s a combination of all of them, but it’s great!

I came across a shaving brush 7 or 8 years ago. I decided to buy it and started using creams instead of cans. But still used cartridges. The thing I didn't lik is that they kept adding more blades. Didn't see the point. And then I got a safety razor and started getting into the classic shaving, the soaps, the blades... And it became a hobby, a nice me-time, just a fun experience.

Thnx for the info. I understand your point of view and it is cheaper. But only if you bought the right razors right away. I have tried the Störtebekker, Wilkinson and King C Gilette with different blades, Astra, Wilkinson and King C Gilette, but I still have wounds. I use pre-shave oil, soap thoroughly and warm my skin first, but I still get wounds. The Störtebekker and Wilkinson ones have a butterfly closure and I had the most wounds with them. But the King C Gilette has a closed closure and that is a lot better. But sometimes wounds. I would like to try the expensive razors like Edwin Jagger or Muhle, but it will be so expensive if this doesn't work out. I shave every 2 to 3 days and have a soft beard. So I have already outsourced a fair amount of money to this. While I don't make any wounds with Gilette labs. I buy them at a discount and pay 38 euros for 12 cartridges. I will be doing this for a year. I still shave with the Astra's and King C Gilette, I have been doing so for 2 months, but those wounds remain. I have seen many, many videos of you and the shaving but it is difficult for the viewer to choose something. You can't do anything about that because it is of course personal for each viewer. You don't know what kind of skin or beard he has. I have been shaving with cartridges for this for years and it was also fast and super smooth. And never suffered from ingrown hairs. I just wanted to say this. But please continue with the videos because I will keep trying and maybe one day I will shave without any nicks. My father has always done this and I quite like this tradition with shaving. (I am 62 years old myself) Especially soaping with the brush, which is wonderful to do. So again, this is not meant negatively, but I just wanted to say that with Gilette labs shaving, for example, I only spend 38 euros per year. ..But I still keep trying with the old way. Kind regards, Ron.

I literally am using the same stuff you're using, my typical lineup: razors vary but examples - rockwell 6s, henson + & ++, leaf twig & thorn, yates merica & winning, blackland blackbird, timeless ti95, gillette slim adjustable...blades such as nacet, personna, permasharp, gsb, gillette platinum...proraso preshave, proraso soaps/croaps, tobs, wholly kaw, tabac, truefitt, d.r. harris, geo trumper, etc...alum block from france, geo f. trumper...and of course the thayers and nivea (I mixed my nivea with some tabac aftershave and wow that's the stuff). I discovered wet shaving late in life too and wish I started out 30 years ago but hey it's now a fun addictive hobby that I thought would save me money but definitely not, I just have a lot more to show for it. Thanks for the videos, I enjoy watching. If you haven't done so already, I would really like to see a GEM style razor in action I am still struggling with the angles for my new Sabre. Cheers!

DUDE. 100%. I am a devotee of your channel, having learned quite a bit and really, really enjoying the experience. I started with the Manscaped Plow 2.0 (it's ok, honestly) before I found your channel and am now the happy owner of a Rockwell 6C (does literally everything right). I've not had to travel multiple days on business for the past several months, so this week I have to be in Vegas all week for work. I could not carry on the Rockwell, so wound up going back to my trusty Harry's system I used for so many years (and loved, by the way), thinking, "What could go wrong?" and "I gotta really wonder how much difference it will be..." because I have not revisited Harry's for months now. So: OH, WOW. Awful, terrible. With a brand new handle and blades, the net effect of Harry's feels like I sanded my face instead of shaved with it. The flimsy, too light, wobbly head, the NEVER GETS THE HAIR on the first, or second, or fifth pass. Ouch. I am gonna shave here in 5 minute, again, with the Harry's system, again. THEN I am going to figure out something else. I don't check bags so I will have to figure out something, but holy smokes.

I'm gonna have to pass on that video just for the sheer Factor of how good my skin looks today compared to two years ago. Everything you said is true. I wasn’t a big shaver in my teenage years. But now that I started this safety razor journey last month I have to say it was the best decision instead of going with cartridge. 2 days ago I dialed in a good razor and blade combo and it gave me the best bbs shave so far with little to no irritation at all and I did 3 passes. I ended up telling my wife I couldn’t wait to shave again 😂. It’s definitely something that I look forward to now and enjoy doing. Keep up the good work and great video 👍🏼

Wonderful to here someone call a spade a spade. When I started shaving I used one of my Dad's Gem razors, an Old Spice mug and a Ever-Ready brush. that was in 1976. In 1977 I bought my own razor and other shaving stuff. The razor was the NEW Gillette Atra, and a Schick hot lather machine. By 1985 the blades for my Atra had just gotten to expensive so I like many others at around that time went to disposables. However two tears ago I found out that I could get blades for my Atra from Persoanna and they were cheap. But then I wanted to use my Dad's old Gem razors, so I got blades for those. Then I wanted to try some of the Gillette razors. And when other people found out that I had a razor collection they began giving me old razors that they had. One guy gave me a Muhle R41 and a R89 plus a Merkur 34G and C. also a Fatep Grande and Piccolo. I also now have 5 Fatboys and 7 slims. Also, I'm now making my own soap. Please send help, I've fallen down the rabbit hole and I can't get out.

I never had an issue with cartridges except that they cost so much and seemed to get blunt and rusty fairly quickly. The disposables felt so bad for the environment and it all felt less than ideal. I'd try to use them for too long. I got a DE at Christmas and I knew immediately I was going to regret the decades wasted on disposables/cartridges. I'm still learning but it's not a chore - it's a bit of self care and so satisfying.

Great question. I have always used trimmers myself downstairs. I have never shave to a baby butt smooth because of your point and I don’t want skin irritation down there. Man grooming is different for everyone, I guess. My ex-wife did take the leaf twig with here when we separated. She loved the leaf razor and them stole the twig and claimed it for herself. So yes, you can use these razors downstairs.

I have found what works absolutely perfect for me with absolutely no burn or irritation (for me)... Yes BBS! Rockwell T2, 7am plus high titanium blade, proraso soap sensatitive skin in the white container and proraso pre shave creme... Keep in mind this was in the shower.. Of course wash face with eucerin body wash cream.. (I have eczema so I use this)... Hot wet clean face and beard apply the proraso creme, rub in very thorough with just enough product, no need to cake it on... Do your normal wash routine while letting creme soften your beard. Leave creme on and apply your soap nice an creamy, not watery as your beard is soaked underneath with the creme. Shave as you do with short slow strokes helps since I started that. Finish with hot water rinse, apply one more full cover and all I had to do was touch up rubbing over face to look for stubble (there was none)! Got out and pat dry face waiting for some sting... No block, no aftershave anything... Want to see how much oil my face produces for damage I may not feel.. So far none so I will add some aftershave liquid lotion (proraso) just for skin care.. Everyone is different of course, face shape, stubble stiffness, my stubble is very course BTW... TT2 is awesome, I'll try this same thing with my Rex ambassador and let ya know, definitely not using the mercur futur yet as I want to keep my face in tact lol... Any suggestions with some stronger smelling stuff for sensative skin, let me know. Ps... I only did one full pass and a touch up.. Yes BBS, everyone says they get that, but I consider that to be absolutely nothing but hydrated smooth all over unirritated face.

$20 Van Der Hagen kit from Target. Art Of Shaving sandalwood shaving cream (a little goes a long way). And an Amazon 16 razor tester pack. That's what I started with and still using. I started using a DE razor late last year and it's so much better. Yes, there's a bit of learning but it's nothing that hard. Besides loving the performance of a DE safety razor I LOVE the idea that I'm not buying a ripoff $5 🪒 refill, and also keeping a lot of plastic out of the landfill. I'm not a tree hugger but it's such a huge waste of plastic to just buy and throw away for it to later show up in the water, air, or food from animals who ingest it. It's a purchase i love and have never looked back on. After I get my technique down I'll think about a different shaver. As for the razor blade, I fell in love with Feather before even knowing there was "aggressive/mild" talk and people saying it's an old wive's tale which is 🐂💩 because it's absolutely not. Trig so far was thee absolute worst out of 8 blades so far. I'm definitely buying a big pack of Feathers when I get a chance.

The razor didn’t work out as well but I still use the blades. For my 50th birthday I got the Rockwell T2 gun metal chrome and one of their gift sets. I like my original muhle but the T2 is a definite step up. Once I made the switch from cartridge razors I definitely saved a lot of money even accounting for all the soaps, lotions and brushes I’ve tried.

I do use Harry's when I go on a airplane no choice since I only take carry on bag as there no chance of losing luggage that way. But when I'm home I use Rockwell 6c safety razor or a Irvine shavette

I made the switch back in 2015 but had to take a hiatus from wet shaving altogether for a while because I had to get a small mole removed from my chin. I used an electric razor in the meantime because I honestly sat on that mole removal for way too long. I then moved and, initially, when I started wet shaving again, I used Schick disposable razors. My DE razor and accessories (a cheap.99 Shaveology setup) was still in a moving box somewhere and I didn’t own a cartridge razor anymore. I even looked at cartridge razors but they had like trippled in price since I gave mine up initially, and today’s prices are honestly insulting! Plus, the reason I switched years ago, even more than the cost of blades, was skin irritation and even ingrown hair from time to time. I don’t have super sensitive skin but it’s not leather, either. I recently asked my aunt if they still had any of my late grandfather’s shaving gear (he passed in the 80s) and she found his shaving brush! I cleaned it and use it now, which is just incredible! I barely remember him but I will forever have this connection with him now, because this gear just lasts and last and lasts if you take care of it. Even if stored in a box in a basement for decades, like my grandfather’s brush, it will likely remain usable. The plastic coating on my very cheap Shaveology razor is peeling off now after 10 years, but the razor is still very much usable and is mild enough for daily use. I now have other razors as well, but that $20 razor will be one of my favs forever.

Thank you for sharing your journey! It's inspiring to see how you've connected with your grandfather through his gear. Those memories make the experience even more special. Great Read

I made the switch about 6 weeks ago and I've really enjoyed learning how to shave again. It's become a ritual. Taking care of me and giving myself the time to focus on this one thing in the morning has become something I look forward to and is a de-stresser. I'm not using a premium razor (yet) but I think I've done a pretty decent job of picking up technique and consistency so far. Just have to be careful. Also have to use good blades. I'm pulling from a blade variety pack now and I've been getting really good shaves with the Gillette Silver Blue. Looking forward to pairing blades with razors once I upgrade over the holidays. Cheers

Thank you for your videos. I have switched to the Rockwell T2 and really look forward to shaving now! It is not perfect yet (still getting used to the safety razor, but I really love the cost savings, and the way my skin feels after the shave. Thanks for all you videos to give people like me the confidence to try a new way of shaving! Have a great day!

Alum block for sure 📦Parker Alum Block: amzn.to/43JtUNk A pre shave oil 🛢️SHAVE OIL: shrsl.com/49ze7 Face toner 📦Thayers: amzn.to/3vQIVxG If you don't already have a shaving brush, I would pick one of those up right away and a good soap/cream that is very slick on your face. Let me know how it goes.

Can also try "Cool Fix" by Shaveworks, or "Bump Fix" by Jack Black. Jack Black is expensive and very similar to Thayers. After my Jack Black supply ran out, I switched to Thayers and now use it every day.

Yeah, I gone into the shaving world like you guys too. I’m slowly but surely getting good razors and upgrading and got soaps and stuff like that myself too and I love it go back to those disposable razors and all that kind of stuff I mean there’s a beer drum I use for certain things but safety wager wise I love it. It’s a fun hobby you know waking up in the morning and put that soup on your face and you’re like wow did you get these different soaps? It’s amazing.

Used to hate shaving, 🪒 so I’d avoid it for weeks at a time. but ever since I switched to a safety razor, 100 titanium blades for $10. Penny a shave and no irritation, and Nivea cream in a tube, brush, and bowl; I shave before I even need to sometimes just because I love it and it costs almost nothing.

Hey, I use a gillette fusion 5 but most of the time I only use the back blade to shape the beard on the cheeks and I use the front blades to shave on the neck. I'm planning to try and change to a rockwell 6c or 6s. My question is, do safety razors work fine with shaving gel? I lilke clear shaving gels so I know exactly where I need to cut. If they work just fine, do you have any recomended shaving gels?

It will be 10 years the first week of February since I started wet shaving and I've been on KZbin since May 7th, 2011 but didn't start making shave videos until later. I have 3 favorite razors. The Henson AL13++ (medium) with a Gillette Wilkinson Sword Saloon Pack blade from India. 100 of those blades are between $9 and $12 US Dollars. The Leaf razor and I just recently got an epic shave from Leaf's Thorn Razor with a leaf branded blade. Here's something else that a lot of people don't know. All of those cartridge razor companies do NOT give you their sharpest blades in the refill packages like they do when you buy a handle and they do it ON PURPOSE so you will have to buy more blades.
