I was in jr high when this came out. That album was a monster hit. Straight Up was the song that launched her though. She was a choreographer before this (and after), but she can be seen in Janet Jackson’s “Nasty” video a few years before she became a household name herself. I believe she choreographed the Nasty video as well.

azdemgal my point is back in those days things were a little bit more discreet. People could use there imagination. These days everything is hanging out, displayed, the body is used as rude, crude and distasteful for shock value! I just think the youth today. The Innocence is lost.

@ Tammy Watkins , I hear ya and agree there is little left to the imagination and if done tastefully I see no problem but if for shock value instead of art then I would agree.

This is my favorite Paula Abdul song. When "American Idol" first came on none of us knew who Simon Cowell or Randy Jackson were. Paula was the famous one. She had a lot of hits and choreographed for a lot of people. She actually did the choreography for the "Wild Boys" video you just reacted to by Duran Duran. As far as Uncle Jesse goes, if you grew up watching "Full House" you probably saw a poster of Paula Abdul on the girls' bedroom wall. Everyone at the time knew that was a nod to John Stamos' relationship with Paula.

Paula Abdul was a choreographer who guided most singers in their music videos. She worked with Wil Smith, Duran Duran, and many others. She got noticed by singing backup/dancing in Janet Jackson's "Nasty Boys" and she was used extensively in Michael Jackson's videos. Michael had his own flair, but Paula helped background dancers.
@zanohoriamazo13 жыл бұрын
Paula is a dancer/choreographer who can carry a tune in rhythm. Wouldn't necessarily classify or label her a 'siinger', but she sure got her shine in the pop world. And that was after she put her stamp on Janet Jackson's career after working as captain of the L.A. Lakers cheerleaders. Add on American Idol, Paula has sure carved out her own place in the game, no doubt.

This also was a Video paying Homage to Bob Fosse who is considered to be next to Jerome Robbins one of Broadway's Greatest Choreographers for Musicals. He Danced in Movies like My Sister Eileen, The Pyjama Game and Babes In Toyland. He later did The Choreography for "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying", which was considered to be one of the many inspirations for Mad Men. This was based on The Movie All That Jazz where Joe Gideon is showing his Latest Musical Production to his Investors. Others who were influenced by him were Michael Jackson (Billie Jean Motown 25) and even Beyonce "Put A Ring On It" when she paid homage to a Dance Number called "The Rich Man's Frug". Bob also discovered Ben Vereen and Debbie Allen. American Idol was a major comeback for her.
