Regarding the Ohtani incident, I've watched youtube videos by many national sports show hosts, but in my opinion Francesa's take on this is the most substantive because of his explanation of the wire transfer process. I hope Ohtani is innocent, but I believe this affair is far from over.

I can't believe how many serious sports people are like "Yeah, it's totally plausible that someone could transfer $4.5m in multiple $500k wire transfers from someone else's account without their knowledge. I mean, he was more than just an interpreter." I don't know what happened, but that's not how wire transfers work. Nobody should be buying that story without any evidence to back it.

Shohei is only interested in baseball but not in money. When he was in Japan, his parents managed his money, and he didn't know how much he had in his bank account. In the U.S., Ippei was taking care of Shohei like a baby. Ohtani is not interested in money, and that's why he gave up his high income in Japan and went to the States to play baseball at a higher level. Besides, his English is not good enough to understand anything complicated, although he can handle simple daily conversations.

All it takes is 2 corrupt people managing his money NOT impossible. I'm more inclined to think that he thought that Mizuhara (being Japanese) was likely to be trustworthy to do as his mother did (manage his finances) in Japan. My hunch is that growing up in Japan where societal expectations are you never do anything wrong but society, Ohtani was not developing the street smarts he may have growing up in the west of not trusting anyone but yourself.

Should have stuck with the first story. I didn't bet. I sent the money to help my friend who has a gambling addiction. I sent it to the bookie directly so my friend wouldn't gamble it. I didn't realize that was illegal. I'm sorry. He would likely pay some sort of fine and his career would go on and everyone wouldn't question it. He was doing what he thought was right to help someone he cared about.

Who broke the story. No complaints/victims no crime. Of course this pitcher bet on sports through the fall guy. Question is did he bet on baseball and more specifically the Angels.

MLB bot accounts talking about how honest Ohtani is/was like they grew up with the guy. The story just doesnt make sense.

Yes because MLB just whipping up a bunch of bot accounts to talk about this situation makes a ton of sense😂😂😂

The fact you don’t understand the relationship between Ippei and Ohtani and your financial illiteracy on legally entrusting someone as a bank account caretaker shows how many people are unqualified to discuss this topic. These are the people who are quick to judge Ohtani is guilty. In the US there are a variety of legal ways to entrust a bank account set aside for a specific purpose to be controlled entirely by a caretaker, power of attorney, trustee, executor/agent and authorized signatory etc and these arrangements applies to all walks of life way more frequently than you think.

The interpreter won’t have to work for the rest of his life, if this works out for Ohtani.

Ohtani's getting millions all the time in his bank accounts. If you were Ohtani, you wouldn't notice if a few million disappeared in one of your accounts. The interpreter had access to the account in question probably because he opened it himself for Ohtani. He wasn't just an interpreter. He was doing everything for Ohtani. That's why he was well paid. If you go to a foreign country where you don't understand the language, you need someone's help. The interpreter was that help for Ohtani.

Mike has clue as to how Ohtani’s financial structure is set up. I don’t know either but he is probably a corporation that has other people having access to those accounts. So it’s not impossible as Mike is alluding to.

You're absolutely right. His take as well as many others assume his accounts are locked down like the average Joe Schmo. The filthy rich and other celebrities grant access to employees or handlers that you or I would deem unfathomable, but it happens. I'm not saying that's what's happened here but to opine on how he didn't know solely by assuming his accounts are structured the way the average person's is at best incomplete. That all said, their handling of this saga has been nightmarish.

Americans don't understand Japan isn't like the US. There's far less crime in the country and people trust one another far more than Americans do. Ohtani just had too much trust in the interpreter. He's too smart to do gambling himself. You'd see it if you understood him speaking in Japanese.

No dirt bag accepts full responsibility. They'll lie to the bitter end and sometimes take their accomplice down with them. The fact that Ippei is taking full responsibility makes this very suspicious and seems more to the story. America is used to scandals and liars. Lets just say we wouldn't be shock either way, that Shohei is clean or lying.
