I'm very critical of people who just toss out endless reams of information to advance some narrative or construct flaky theses; there's just so much of it and that's why i consistently give Norton top marks for being a not full of shit guy and that he gets it right over and over without creating hyperbole and false drama to reverse engineer his narrative. I'd love to see a discussion on what will the US be like without dollar hegemony. How to limit the collapse to prevent the US resorting to even more brutality to the rest of the world. In other words, how the US can be humble without being humbled, which will only result in revenge which will only make the already disadvantaged countries even more disadvantage.

29:00 Ben and Aaron have discussed this extensively, but I'm reading Clara Mattei's The Capital Order: How Economists Invented Austerity and she offers a wealth of archival support and insights in regards to the relationship between liberalism and fascism, ie its undergirding ideological assumptions inextricably linked to an overlapping austerity capitalism where fascism is merely the more explicit form of this normally impersonalized technocratic structural violence. Actually, might be cool to hear a discussion with her in juxtaposing current policy choices with this history. Maybe important/insightful consideration for the Volcker shock-esque "expert" prescriptions currently being executed to highlight the soulless mechanical logic that directs and disguises this inherent class war as "objective" and "good, actually" as her historical materialist focus on the mainstream economists and how it structured hegemonic ideas at the time in particular is quite interesting/revealing (quite similar to Aaron's book), basically comparing the UK with Italy and highlighting the utility of creating these distinct ideological categories which serve to ideologically disguise that "fascism" is really just a more explicit/pronounced domestic enforcement of the "liberal democratic" social order, aka bourgeois dictatorship.
