Sweet video. Very detailed and helped me for my first oil change on the new tacoma

Glad it helped! The Tacoma itself is really easy to do oil changes on and I feel like a lot of people don’t realize they can totally do it themselves.

I had my last 2 oil changes at dealership since it had factory maintenance.. They overtightened it so hard I had to use a drill to get it off, and did end up with a small leak because it cracked a little. The oil drain bolt, the ring literally glued on the pan, i have no idea how did they fk that up. I am eyeing the aluminum oil housing now, maybe its better.

This is exactly why I started changing mine myself. Even though the service is free, I realized it was going to end up costing me when some tech would inevitably overtighten and crack the housing with an impact gun. Luckily it never came to that since I started doing it myself.

How often are you changing your oil?
@MikesGearGarage3 ай бұрын
Every 5k miles. I know that technically you can go longer with modern synthetics, but I want to take this thing to 500k miles lol

@@MikesGearGarage Quite a bit different than changing oil and filter in my 2008 SR5. I guess the Toyota engineers determined that this set up would be better than the 2nd gen. Thanks for the video.
@MikesGearGarage3 ай бұрын
It’s probably not lol. I’ve had to use a heat gun to get the filter cap off twice now. I’m about to switch it to aluminum and see if that helps
@aknadiri252027 күн бұрын
@@shinerlightman yea its def not. Older trucks were much simpler with filter on top, you could loosen it with hand even, no tools nothing.

where does oil come from?

Olives probably

My 2023 says 6.2 quarts. It wouldn’t feel right just putting six in lol
@MikesGearGarage6 ай бұрын
Check the dipstick before doing that. 6.2 is maximum fill. When you drain the oil it doesn’t totally empty it, so there will be residual oil in there.

@@MikesGearGarage I did, and it’s right at the top not past the top dot

Which, with the two different oils

It's the same weight, 0W-20, the smaller one was just because I didn't want to buy another 5qt bottle when I only max needed one more quart.

I have never torqued a drain pan bolt ever. Useless in my opinion.
@MikesGearGarage3 ай бұрын
I think the torque spec exists just so that some caveman with an impact wrench doesn’t over do it and strip the threads off the reservoir
