@@christianflores6626 great, it used to be a little oil but not bad enough to add any between changes. The truck now has 33k miles on it. Our LM2 has 8000 miles on it. I absolutely love driving both. Oddly enough, I prefer the LM2 because the torque converter engages soon. The LZO slips the torque converter more revving the engine slightly more.

Just did the first oil change on my LM2 2023 Suburban. 1500 miles on it. Usually change the oil on a new engine at 1000 to 1500 miles just for piece of mind. Oil on the dip stick did not appear to move from when I purchased it with 20 miles on it. DEF is still 3/4 full. Was a little nervous purchasing my first GM product from owning Toyotas all my life but so far, the family loved the Suburban. 30mpg highway is pretty amazing as well.

I had a similar dealership experience with my Tacoma 4x4. It had vibration at certain speed. Dealer said, they all do that. Well, I found a TSB from Toyota that says if customer is experiencing vibration in front differential at this speed, there is a worn bushing in drivers side axle shaft. Once I showed them that, it was repaired under warranty. Thank goodness for the Internet. Thanks for the vids, even truck ones. Randy

On the flip side. Warehouse managers jeep grand cherokee kept throwing all kinds of codes after stalling in traffic. He took it to Elk Grove Dodge and Jeep twice. It died the first time ten minutes after he got it back. I looked on internet and found several videos on a common ecm connectivity issue. He took it back to Elk Grove Jeep and told them what to fix. The service guy said they had to send it out to get the crap connections re-soldered. He had already shot the parts cannon at the POS. Never went back to Elk Grove Jeep again. Yes the internet has reshaped repair procedures.

Honestly, I was expecting something worse. Kudos to Tim. Every dealership should have a service manager like him. Sadly that's not the case. I would be interested in a post-fix video with oil and DEF consumption report after some towing if you get the chance. I would also accept "It's fixed.. moving on" 🤣 My truck is a bit newer comparing to your VIN. Mine was built in July 2020. I haven't looked, but I don't doubt my valve cover is in the "bad" range too. But I also don't have the oil consumption nor have I had any glow plug issues. In fact I've never had a code come up. So there would be zero chance of having mine replaced. Because it's not "bad" until all conditions are met. I actually read that TSB a number of months ago. Consider yourself lucky that you had the bad #2 glow plug with a code set. Without it, you'd get the typical runaround of the oil consumption being "within normal spec". I mean I can understand why. A typical dealer doesn't want to spend the time to diag and pull out the parts cannon. GM simply doesn't allow/pay for it, especially for warranty work. Ironically I went through exactly this same scenario with my old 5.3 Silverado that was consuming oil because of a bad valve cover. Some things never change.

@@SpicerDesignsLLC FYI, I got a letter in the mail the other day from GM. It says my 2020 3.0 "may have a condition that could cause the engine's cylinder 2 glow plug to fail... MIL will illuminate" and to not take it into the dealer for this issue unless this DTC is set. The letter says they're covering this issue 15 years from purchase date or 150k miles. They also included a reimbursement form stating that if you've paid out of pocket for this issue before receiving the notice, they'll cover all costs even if it was out of warranty. I almost have to wonder if Tim and others got this high enough up the GM chain. Something tells me the timing isn't a coincidence. Kudos again to Tim. And also GM for doing the right thing. And thank you so much for going through the details in this video. If mine eventually has this problem, I'm going to request they replace all of the glow plugs even if I have to pay for them, since as they found on yours it was more than just the #2.

Thanks a ton for the video a ton!!!! To give you some background on my issue. I have a 2020 3.0 duramax just like you. I bought 40 acres last fall 1.5 hrs away from home and go there every weekend to work on the property. I also put 100 miles a day on my truck go to work and back. I have 74k on it now and have loved it. It tows my 6000 lb trailer fine and also my 6 seater SXS. A month ago I was 2 miles from home it went into reduced engine power and the code was the one you mentioned. After pulling the code I realized it was oil related. I pulled the dipstick and no oil was visible. I went to Autozone and got 2 quarts of oil and put it in. No oil was still visible. I was now very concerned of a major issue. Went and got 2 more quarts and finally it was in the hash marks. I was close to an oil change and was making a 3hr trip north with the camper so I went an got an oil change. I verified that the oil was full the next morning and it was slightly over the hash marks 👍. Made the trip and no issues and the following weekend I was going to my property with the SXS and decided to check the pil before the trip. It was in the lower ¼ hash marks on the dipstick 😢. I went up north and check oil the next morning and it was under the hash marks 😡. I searched oil google and come across this video!! Called the dealer and explained this issues and the series of events above. Give the dealer the APB number along with pictures from the scanner and dipstick etc. Today I took it in at 8am and they just called me and said this was exactly my issue and a 14hr repair in now in process's once they get the parts! Glad because my warranty expires in late January. Looking forward to no oil loss... Thanks a ton again!!!

I can’t thank you enough for sharing this! I have a 2020 1500 LM2 that has gone through 6 glow plugs and consumed gallons of oil since buying it. I went through 4 effing years where the dealership diesel mechanics had no clue about this TSB issue. I presented the TSB you referenced. They’re now replacing the valve cover housing under the drivetrain warranty. It’s taken them 3 weeks to do it. Have you had ANY issues with your LM2 since they replaced it? Thanks again!

I’m guessing towing exaggerates it. I’ve towed our horse trailer but that’s only about 7000 pounds. And only 50-60 miles at a shot. I’m amazed it can hold that oil in there. It’s wicked thin stuff. I changed from the genuine oil to the ESP X2 the last service. It was just a little easier to get. As I side note we’ve got an Equinox with the Turin Vaxhaul 1.6. We’ve had decent service out of that too. I’ve had diesels for many years. I work on them for a living so I’m just used to being around them. Tier 4 has been a challenge but it’s pretty much old news now. Keep up the good work!

I've had this exact problem with my 09 chevy 1500 with 6.0 All I do is tow and it'll go through a quart every fuel fill up. I've spent 10 grand, months of sticking it at multiple mechanics. Every single seal in that engine has been replaced. Turns out i should've just researched it myself because it's only a defective valve cover that I can replace myself along with tuning out AFM.
