We really need to do ours 😬 its from 1981. My husband cleaned last year. Someone came and adjusted the nozzle? But I don't know if the filters were ever changed 😳

Definitely needs a new belt, with them large cracks in the old belt. It can break in two places. They get that way after several RPM's, that wears them out. I like the way you organize your truck, helps you out so to find things quickly. Nice work steve

Those nyloflex couplers can be a problem. Had them wear a little. When warm they lose grip and heater goes into lockout. Coupler works when heater is cool. They usually will last one cycle. I replace the couplers once a year here in arctic alaska. I watched uour video on force air furnace because I dont see many of them here. I was asked to look one over at local church that like this hadnt seen mx since installation. Furnace room was all soot. Soot everywhere. Nozzle, igniter, flu & filter all were jaw droppers. This area gets cold for a few months of -20's to -30's at night. So furnace runs from Late Sept to Early June.

People are clueless in storing combustibles in the boiler area. Seen chainsaws, lawnmowers, BBQ tanks, spray paint and basic household junk stored around boilers. All it takes is a puff back or flame roll-out and kiss the house good bye.

wow I rent and my shit has not been serviced in 8 years. I can hardly see the site glass. And I am a building engineer yet this is the landlords shit. Should I do it myself? I already recaulked the bathroom with GE cause it was bad. Prehaps, I should clean it out for my safety and bottom fuel $$ line? YEAH

I know this comment was a year ago, but how'd that work out for ya? Personally, I wouldn't touch any of it, even if you're 100% on what you are doing, unless it's an emergency. Been on both sides of that coin. Rented to people, who were sure they knew how to wire 120V, and almost burned the place down rather than telling us they had a problem. I've lived in rentals where the landlord balks at spending $10 on a front door knob that actually locks. I bought one, installed it, sent the receipt to her and deducted the cost from the rent. Furnace had issues that winter, blew soot everywhere. She kept putting off calling anyone. I cleaned the air filter, and cleaned out the blockages from the exhaust, but I wasn't touching anything else after seeing the 8 year old date on the last service ticket. When I moved the next year, she kept my deposit, and even tried billing me for cleanup services to repaint the walls by the register outlets and what it cost to service the furnace. Said I caused it by messing with the air filter... ugh. I gave up fighting over the deposit, but the tech was looking at the furnace on one of my last trips back, told me he was surprised it ever ran at all, lectured the landlord about regular maintenance, and told her what I did probably saved her money on repair costs instead of causing the problem. Lesson Learned! Even if you can fix something when you're renting from someone, don't! They will find a way to blame and charge you for it all when you go to move.

Probably depends on what part of the country you're located. Here in the North East, Oil fired heat, and boilers are very common. You usually have tons of choices of people to call to work on that equipment. The rest of the country seems like it's more NG/LP furnaces.
@KenKen-ui4ny
@KenKen-ui4ny 8 жыл бұрын
Good point matter in fact oil furnaces and boilers back in their hey day used to be quite prevalent nationwide even in places more down south, But now since we now have more natural gas utility's available and more cheaper choices of home heating, Oil fired heat has practically gone the way of the dinosaur in most of the country with the exception of the north eastern states

Don't you check the combustion and smoke number? What about all the safety devices, burner lockout and overheat cut outs etc? After 5yrs you need to be thorough!! Air heating has got to be the most inefficient heating system available. You fellas in the States are in the dark ages. Have you heard of condensing boilers, optimisation and weather compensation heating controls?
