Thanks for the very informative videos on trouble shooting oil furnaces, I went through every step on trouble shooting and learned my way around it, I ran my oil tank low, and had to clear out the sludge out of the line, I did it with an air pump, now I just have to install a new firomatic safety valve in the morning and hopefully my furnace will be good to go.

Since I worked in a city, oil furnaces were uncommon. Seemed 75% of the time, they never serviced the filter/nozzle and continously let it run out of oil. Most were in rental properties in bad areas. A real joy to work on in a 20" crawlspace. Oh, and a tank that was 35 years old and corroded................talk about dread.

There are 2 types of oil furnaces. Those that are serviced every year and on keep filled service, and those that are only serviced when they fail. Guess which ones had the most emergency service. Some of the furnaces I serviced every year were installed in the fifties and were still going strong in the 90s. Thanks for the comment. GFM

Don’t forget to remove the nozzle ( which should have been done when inspecting the ignition electrodes) to clean the filter that is on it. Verrrrry important. The nozzle metal screen filter and the filter in the pump is probably more proned to obstruction dirt than any of the other filters because the filter out dirt and debris more finer than the primary tank filter

Thank you for all your videos, can you tell me which oil filter style you think is better to use Cartridge type or turn type K10, assembly, i see many older places have cartridge type, what do you prefer ?

Gray Furnaceman : would you answer a question or two please ? I was up all last night 05/30/2021 because the symptoms were what was described in your video. Oil burner would turn on then off then on again as if there was air in the lines or maybe a clogged nozzle. So I changed filter and nozzle, checked pump screen and then I could not get oil burner pump to fill up filter canister - I could not get oil to the burner. Pulled small copper fuel line that supplies oil to tube that has nozzle attached to it, has ceramic electrodes proper terminology escapes me at the moment, the gun I believe it is called(that has nozzle screwed into). Well, no oil was coming out of fuel line. Oil tank is piped with two pipes and not gravity fed. Fuel lines are coming out of the top of oil tank. I thought fuel lines were clogged so I got air compressor and blew the lines back to the oil tank. Approximately 100 lbs of pressure was used. I do not know how I finally got oil burner to run again but I did. Original symptoms are still happening. Fires up for a little then flutters then off and eventually during the same cycle burner turns back on (thank God)before lock out. I have a Suntec A2VA-7116 oil pump. The oil pump makes a squeek sometimes when it first starts up then the squeek goes away. I do use fuel additive when the Oil delivery man delivers the oil. This is like my third pump so far. The last oil pump I installed was 12/2019. Any help you could offer would be appreciated.

I got all drip feed style one. No power no pump. The control valve doesn't even fill up as much as it needs to even though the valve is full open. Is it the level? Or air bubble?

Thank you sir for very informative videos! I have one question, when I do smoke test every third sample is wet. Two tests show trace (0-1). co2-9.1, o2-8.6 Could you advise what it could be? Thanks.
@grayfurnaceman
@grayfurnaceman 2 жыл бұрын
Any wet sample indicates unburned oil. You may have had an ignition failure and the combustion chamber has not burned the residual oil. You could also have a partially plugged nozzle. GFM

hey GFM,Just put in a new oil tank the burner ran for about 9 hours I turned it off tried it again and no oil flow to the burner.Could it be a blocked oil line bad pump or pump coupling.I just Replaced the pump,the motor,cad cell relay and igniter, at this point I'm wondering if the tank could of possibly tilted and no oil is even getting to the oil line to the burner

You could have a blocked line or filter. I would remove the filter canister, the turn on the oil to see if oil is available. GFM
@jasonsmith6776

I'll give that a try thanks,I was leaning towards a blocked line but the filter could be the problem,I'm using the standard canister filter not sure when it was serviced last so I might just upgrade and get a renewable filter

Is there any chance that the nozzle might be plugged? I have a burner that oil comes out after I attach the oil line from the assembly and it does pump out, but still no fire? There is a good spark makes me think it could be the nozzle its self? Anyone ever come across that?
@grayfurnaceman
@grayfurnaceman 3 күн бұрын
You could certainly have a plugged nozzle. GFM

What is the best way to unplug the line? Is it OK to try blowing it out with Nitrogen or compressed air?
@grayfurnaceman

You can blow it out if both ends are open. When it is clear, reconnect and do a thorough flush. GFM
