Great recap. Such a great reminder that you never want to lose track of your other instruments as well as your standard ones. It could have been easy to focus on your altitude, heading, attitude, and airspeed but fail to check your fuel gauges or oil pressure and wind up with an engine out in IMC. It sounds like you all made some good decisions and I'm glad you're here to tell us about them!

Nice story, unfortunately I have a similar one! Was flying in a skybolt under one of Manchester (UK) airports commercial corridors and had just descended to get under it. I lowered throttle to maintain speed in the descent but when we leveled out, and I had increased it again, the RPM stayed the same. Checked mixture, was fine, pushed the throttle forward to check response and then *judder judder judder* Engine seized @ ~1250ft and it was 60 seconds till we were in a field. Glad you were able to make it to the tarmac

Great Walker! It was fun flying with you with my Grandma a couple years ago (:
