Oils on plastic models has been around a looonnngggg time. But then, it takes effort, thought, and time. Bottled effects just shorten all of those... and thus, they make money off of them. Nothing wrong with that, there are loads of professional miniature painters who use that to boost productivity as they paint hundreds of 28mm and 15mm armies for wargamers who don't paint their own models. As for me, being on a shoe string budget, I appreciate your sharing how to use the time honored artist oils on plastic kits. Before I buy 'streaking' effects from those other companies, I first want to learn how use that burnt umber oil tube I've had laying round for such a purpose for quite some time. I bought it before KZbin tutorials made it easy, and just never got around to putting an old hobby book (by the late great Shep Paine) on a clipboard in front of me on teh work bench to experiement. Now, I can just put this video from KZbin on my phone stand in the corner and follow along. I'll try not to hit pause after blending with my fingers though, not sure that oil paint will clean up off my screen so easy!

Mooooooom! Stinky’s finger painting his space mans again! Very cool. Oils keep coming up in other groups I find myself in, so this is well worth a share. That way They can blame you, and not me if it goes wrong 😛

any varnish before the weathering? or is the odorless thinner not harmfull for the plastic?
@PaintonPlasticbyLincolnWright4 жыл бұрын
Yes this model has been a complex process, there has been vanish before and after the decals which was before the weathering. There's a full series of step by step videos on this project on my website, paintonplastic.com

Thank you for the video...i just started making models and i want to use oil paints over acrylic for weathering effects...what do you use to dillute the oils to make it a wash,that wont mess with the acrylic base?

Came back to this video, 2nd lockdown, plus side easy money, downside loss of freedoms, there is no cause for panic, just keep doing what you do, as you normally would do it.....its not about a virus.....so let's make it about painting on plastic 😁
