Hi Wilson, I have watched the other video you suggested on close up of birch trees. I will definitely be trying it. And thank you for the other art site for lessons they are fantastic and have a lot of variety of different artists styles. Thank you for all the advice you have given and I am sure I will have plenty more for you in future.

I too love the birch trees. My Dad used to make a birch bark cup, even put a handle on it. We could get a cool drink. We were in the woods fishing.Left the cup in a branch for the next time. Years later I took my Son back there and there was our cup.Next to watching your paintings I love to go fishing. Not too many females went fishing in my day. Keep up the wonderful work. I cant get fishing anymore.

Wilson: Everything about your instructions are so inspiring; in fact, last noc I did a 1st attempt @ the "Shooting Star" which was fun, filled me w/ encouragement & all the highlights glowed from my tiny nightlight. I've perused all your sites...and want to let you know that your manner of speaking is just as pleasant as your instruction methods. My daily chores of midlife have given way to "aging in place" in my studio apt.; without priority chores for Kids, cows, & crops. Thank You for sharing your time &talents! BARB

Thanks for posting this. I recently painted a stand of birch in a night scene with a black background, it turned out pretty good and has a lot of drama. You mentioned using strain odorless mineral spirits, is that what works best? I've tried the turpenoid and some thinner based on orange extract, but I'm not sure its the same?
