Linseed oil is highly flammabel and oily rags and paper towels can combust quite easily if you just toss it in the bin. I highly recomend reading how to dispose the rags and paper towels
@RockDove52124 жыл бұрын
What is best to do for safe disposal? I can't find clear answer. I think maybe pouring water on them?
@alexandrajohansson60474 жыл бұрын
emantsrif star i’m not really that sure. But it’s only dangerous while it’s drying. So you can either let it dry entierly flat and making sure that the heat can escape or you could put the rags in a firesafe bin with a bit of water in the bottom. If you put it in a bin, it’s important that it’s metal or fireproof glass (not regular glass) and it has to be an airtight lid. An old paintcan is good to use :)

Can the "fat over lean" rule potentially be broken if one uses paint straight from the tube over a layer that has been mixed with linseed oil? I have wondered about this because paint from the tube is much thicker but technically can not be fatter than paint that has been mixed with linseed oil. I would appreciate your perspective on this. Thank you in advance!

The book shows a method of thickening while you put oil before into the freezer and after into the refrigerator; do you think it is a good method? Thanks.

Hi! What should we be using as paint thinner? I always thought linseed oil could be used as thinner / for cleaning brushes, but now I'm finding that in order to follow fat over lean, I should only use linseed oil in the later layers... Hoping to work "imprimatura" into my process and wondering what to thin the paint with.

I have a question. I tint my canvas by using and odorless turpentine as a medium. Then when that’s dry, I then use liquin original for my blocking in . Then when that is dry , I typically just work straight with the paint and lend seed oil for the remainder of the painting. Are there any problems with this system I should know about ? Please and thank you.

Hello Paint Coach Thank you for sharing the guidance and skill in other videos. I'm one of your fanclub. I've a question related to his to make a medium. In what proportion the lingered oil and white spirit are added together to make a medium to increase the flow of the paint and to follow the rule of thick over thin. Anything else is added to make the medium like varnish or Winsor Newton gel? I definitely want to slow down the drying time. Awaiting the reply! Thank you!

@paintcoach4 жыл бұрын
vickrdable you can just toss it. Linseed oil isn’t toxic
@RockDove52124 жыл бұрын
Linseed oil may be non toxic but when it comes to disposal the point is that's it's highly flammable. Rags can self ignite. Pour water on them before disposal I believe. Don't screw them up and just toss them .

@isabella-zx2dc4 жыл бұрын
What's the main difference between a solvent and a paint thinner? What about a solvent and a medium? Where does turpenoid fall into that? Thank you so much!!
@paintcoach4 жыл бұрын
Solvent, thinner, and terpenoid are pretty much the same thing. They serve the same purpose of loosening the paint out of the bristles. Medium is used to change the consistency of the paint. Some artists mix the thinner with medium to their own blend to paint with but I just recommend having a can of thinner to pretty much act as water does with acrylic and a small thing of linseed oil for medium. Linseed oil will slow the dry time. Some like that. Some don't. There are mediums that speed up drying time if that's what you're looking for.
