For anyone watching with an Xdrive model, dont get discouraged when you dont see the invasive axles and front transfer case . Ive completed mine with just the help of this video and the part 2 ! Only thing is that the there is a little variation in the bolts ! Ps : i did this in a gravel driveway with some jack stands and a Jack 🤙🏽 PITA but it wasnt horrible .

READ IF OILPAN DOESNT DROP DOWN, I did a oilpan gasket replacement on my E60 with the N52 and when I removed al the bolts the pan was loose but didn't drop. Seemed like it was stuk inside the oilpan, this was also the case because of a stupid design. THE COUNTERWEIGHT ON THE BACK OF THE KRANK WHEN ITS ON THE DOWN STROKE WILL INTERVEIN WITH THE OILPAN. I learned the hard way and this happened to me, to fix this just turn the engine over by hand to fix the position of the counterweight. Hopefully this helps someone because no one talks about this that it could happen.

I have read about a trick on E39's where you can cut the gasket in two places and slip it into place, using RTV to seal the two cuts. It cuts the job to an easy 2 hours and means you don't have to lift the engine, etc. Is that something that could be done on the E60's? The only problem I would see is that you couldn't scrape the residue off the surface with the razor like you did in Part 2.

The trick what you talking about is no guarantee that the oil will stop leaking. But yes, you can do it this way.

Perfect movie. Are oil pan bolts aluminium ? I managed to stick them to the magnet. Why they should be changed ? What if I use high temperature silicon instead of changing them ?
@mikes.garage2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, this is aluminum bolts and they must be replaced. Otherwise, you are going to break them while tightening. I was following repair manual. If you want to try to do this job your way, you can do it. But if something go wrong.... this is a big job to redo.

@@mikes.garage sorry, i thought i deleted the comment. I fast forwarded the video to point of removing the subframe without realizing i did just that which lead me to think what’s holding all that weight once you removed the subframe because i was so certain that the transmission bolts and transmission bracket can’t supports all that weight then i watched the video again but starting from the beginning i realized what I’ve missed. Good video! My N52 has 222,500 miles and is still on the original gasket but there is barely any leak but the S85 engine has more oil leak seeping from the oil pan with only 150,000 miles.
