This Job is in my future! I had a local Garage try and cure my oil leak, they found it was the oil pan gasket. So I dropped it off on Wednesday night, and they changed the oil pan gasket. they didn't cure the leak, so the changed the gasket AGAIN! Friday afternoon, they called me and told me to come get the truck. They also told me that I owed them NOTHING for the job, as they were unable to cure the leak, and suggested that I call the dealer and have them look at it. The reason I brought it to them, was I didn't WANT to do the job... but now I guess I WILL be doing this job. And instead of just the gasket, I will be replacing the whole oil pan! Thanks for the Video!

Just picked up an 07 envoy the other day, has 5.3 with 150k. Bought it from a junkyard in VA for a good deal, no rust. DOD lifters make a ton of noise which is why no one bought it (probably thought it was a rod knock). Truck does lose oil pressure after a few minutes of running, so I'm gonna replace the oil pump with a hv pump, pickup o rings and delete DOD while i'm in there. Gonna be fun...

My diff and actuator housing were really stuck on my oil pan. I broke the actuator back plate that fits into the oil pan when trying to remove! I was doing it after pulling the engine though...i likely should have left the entire housing together for added rigidity. Im about ready to junk this 06 trailblazer...such a pain to work on! Exhaust valves locked up..so need head redone. But want to check bottom of engine before rebuilding head...have to pull oil pan to get front cover off to get to oil pump and timing chain!

Great video! I have the exact same problem with my 5.3 Envoy and was guessing this is the problem. Mine will lose pressure completely at idle. I'm temporarily getting by with adding an extra 2qts of oil. Read on another forum that with the extra oil if it works, very likely the seal. My question is, do you know if the crankshaft is low enough to hit my oil level? Don't want to whip my oil into salad dressing, know what I mean. Is the pickup tube seal lower than the bottom of the crankshaft. I need to do this seal change but it will take a bit of time. I've checked my oil several times after approx 50 mile runs and don't notice any whipping/foaming in the oil so I think I'm OK. I run synthetic so less foaming and it is a V8 so low RPM......I'm thinking I'm safe for awhile. Thoughts?

I'm following the procedure and making progress. One question on the AC compressor bolts. I have the bottom 2 out and I found one of the top ones to loosen (frontmost; can be seen through the wheel well). I can barely even see the rearmost top bolt. How were you able to loosen it? Did you have to remove some other stuff first?

Metric. M6. Slide hammer is the way to do it by the book. You could make a homemade slide hammer with M6 threaded rod. I just used a long M6 bolt with a fender washer and whacked it from the backside with a hammer and a chisel.
@scottbeattie6032
@scottbeattie6032 2 жыл бұрын
I found that I couldn't get a M6-1.0 to work. It would only go on a few threads. But I did find that a 1/4" bolt worked perfectly for me; it threaded as much as I needed it to. I also rented a slide hammer and Pitman arm puller from AZ (both have the same bolt/thread size), and fortunately I had a really wide washer that fit the Pitman arm gap just perfectly. I think it came out on the first or maybe second pull.

Great video bud! How many miles did you have when it started leaking? I have 216,000 on my 2009. My mechanic suspects the oil pan, and possibly the rear main. I'm wondering if I bought the pan for nothing, and it's just the gasket. They said it had some rot, but it's cast, and cast doesn't rot as far as I know. Oh well, I'll have a new pan. Thanks again!

dropping the rack and pinion and putting it back up like you show i did not take nothing loose but to mounting bolts. after getting done it all seemed right to me. i drove a few miles watching the oil pressure. and all of a sudden it seemed like the toe in was out and the stabilitrak came on. felt real bad to drive so gave a quick look and drove 1/4 mile home if that. now steering wheel is turned about 30 deg. and the play in the wheel comes and goes. If turn off stabilitrak this still happens but does not feel like it is trying to correct. Put envoy back and stands and all seems tight. Any suggestions?

Your video came up for my 3.4L 6cyl FWD 2006 Chevy Equinox. I'm trying to repair or replace anything I can on my own that's easy to moderate in skill level, and I THOUGHT dropping the oil pan would be a breeze! Jesus, lord have mercy! This is insanity for a damn oil pan. Another video I watched was not as labor intensive, however, your video seems to align more with what my Chilton's manual says needs to be done. This is one I'll leave to the pros at my local mechanic shop! More and more, I'm starting to hate this Chevy based on how difficult simple things are. Just to check the ATF is insane. Who the heck decided to put the dipstick UNDER the engine and require the entire car to be lifted just to get to it? WHY? (Completely rhetorical, not looking for answers. I know why. $$$$)

@NiXFiX
@NiXFiX 4 жыл бұрын
The transfer case stayed in. I think you mean the front differential. I just moved it to the side as far as it would go to clear the oil pan. If you want to remove it completely, most people remove the battery, battery tray, the alternator, and the AC compressor (on the 6 cylinder) and pull the differential up and out.

LOL, definitely not for an inexperienced backyard mechanic. I need to address a low o/p condition and considering how involved this is I'm thinking I may as well pull the engine and pop in a rebuilt engine. I knew it was going to suck when I saw the drive shaft through the oilpan.
