I was just about to remove my engine to do this exact job. Relieved to see it's possible this way! Good work, Patch.

This video is a lifesaver. What fipg did you use one the No. 1 and 2 oil pans?

I used AISIN black FIPG

Thank you for this video. Quick question. I took my Sequoia to have this leak taken care of. The mechanic did the front crank seal, only for me to find it was still leaking once I went to pick it up. He told me it was that same seal, but once he tore it down again, he told me it was from the oil pump housing. The new crank seal held up. At that point he still didn't know there was an O ring a couple inches away behind the oil pump housing. In the video he sent me from the first time, there was oil up there but worse than your video, and pooled up under the crank sprocket. Now as we're addressing it again, he said that it was hard to tell because the timing mechanism sprays oil everywhere. My question is, would that actually happen? Or does the timing cover block oil from spraying upwards? Just trying to determine if he missed it the first time and it seems like even the slightest amount of due diligence would have proven the crank seal was not the only issue.

It’s difficult to understand if you’ve never taken one apart but if he had looked at a parts diagram he would’ve figured out what the problem was immediately. It is easy to assume that the problem would be limited to the crank seal but he should’ve made sure it was fixed before returning it to you

I’m ready to tackle this job myself. I have an engine hoist and stand. Should I pull the engine or drop the diff?
@cruiserpatch Жыл бұрын
my advice: pull the diff. I would not want to pull the engine unless I was planning to rebuild the whole thing. there's a lot more to go wrong with pulling an engine

Ive been putting this off on my 4runner for years...at least its 2WD. So lame they used an o ring for this seal and made it external!
