I'm from Albion, Berbice and we called it "salt and rice". The childhood memory this dish is so simple and tasty. You said it right, when there is no curry for the rice, as long as there oil, salt, bird pepper, shallots, and rice you know you cannot go hungry.

I moved to Toronto 46 years ago. I had oil and rice growing up on Wakenaam Island. Good memories u bringing back my friend. U continue to enjoy. I be back there next year 2021. I still lockdown in Philippines. Cebu City. Thursdays 26th November 2020.

I was just talking to my friends about having rice, salt, scallions and oil to eat when we didn't have much to eat. You are absolutely right when you say loneliness is a dangerous thing in life. It doesn't matter how much money you have in your pocket, love of great family and great friends who are true makes it worth to walk the road of life. I can't believe you made this food when I was just talking about it yesterday. I didn't think other people knew about this 😆. Wow I guess it's a Guyanese thing🙌 Anyhow, thank you for the adventure and great food. Keep shining your positivity and love. C.R.
