Bullet points as I was watching your video: If you mount the wire on the far side, the thread will push it directly under the hook shank, instead of up the near side, resulting in a lopsided abdomen. At the end of tapering, recommend wrapping all the down and back to even the underbody out. Recommend that you “helicopter” the wire off, you won’t have to worry about the tip sticking out. I use a surgeon’s scalpel to nick/trim my tinsels close (same with foam). I NEVER cross a bead with the thread. I’ll whip it and retire on the backside. Nifty little pattern. The embossed ribbing effect is nice.

Thanks so much for sharing the recipe. When I saw this fly the first thing I thought was “how the hell did they do that”. Great explanation

Having just checked this vid out again because someone “liked” a comment I made, I have another suggestion, if you are going to build a thread dam to keep the bead from jamming the breathers at the front, use a bead that is more round (the one shown has a flat bottom which is great for “clinger” patterns) and flip it around, the larger hole at the front will allow your bead to get closer by allowing a portion of the dam to enter into the larger hole, and eliminate that large gap that you show. Its all aesthetics and I’m sure the trout don’t care, but I love a pattern tied with all things considered. Sorry, perfectionism is both a blessing and a curse.
