Medicated oil is indeed significantly better at reducing vata than is ordinary oil, even high quality sesame oil, because of the active principles that it carries into the body via the skin. If it is difficult to find high-quality medicated oils (and it is not difficult to do so in the US, thanks to Sarada (www.saradausa.com). You can also purchase some high-quality oil -- Sesame is standard, almond is nourishing, coconut is great esp in hot climates, and most others are OK - the key is that they should be cold-pressed and, if at all possible, organic. Next, decide if you want to use the one-step method (which cooks the oil & herbs & water together) or the two-step method, which is described here. Then choose which herbs you want to use - this will depend on your dosha, the dosha of the climate where you are located & the season of the year - if you cannot decide then use Brahmi/Gotu Kola, which is good for most people. The traditional proportion is 1:4:16 herbs to oil to water, i.e. to medicate 200 mls of oil use 50 gm of herbs plus 800 ml water. Simmer the herbs & water in a closed pot for one hour, then let it stand for another hour. Strain out the herbs, then take the water decoction you have made & mix it with the oil. Cook in an open pot over low heat - do not boil - for at least one hour (two hours is better). The water will slowly evaporate. When most of the water is gone, increase the heat slightly to speed up the process. The oil needs to cook until all the water has evaporated. This can be tested by dropping a drop of water into the pan (if the oil crackles, it is ready), and by noting the change in the size of the bubbles (from large to small) and the sound of the cooking (from a crackle to a hiss). Let it cool, then bottle. Apply to your body at least once per week; daily is better.

What proportions?
@bhadrakaali4189 Жыл бұрын
Sir, actualy Murivenna oil or Mhanarayana Tailam are pre prepared, very well established oil for the purpose of massage and those should suffice. For making your own oil at home take half quantity of seasaman oil, the other half should be mustard, olive oil, and coconut oil in equal quantities. Add little aloe vera gel and put some fenugreek (methi dana) into it. Crush garlic, raw turmeric and ginger and boil the oil. Cook well, rinse, store and use warm every time. Jai Shri Ram. Reply
