You must not watch much dub anime then. This mental block people have from dubbed anime 2005 and earlier needs to shatter. Give modern Funimation shows a chance, and DONT' let your former prejudice cloud your judgment. Also when I say Funimation I don't mean DBZ/One Piece even though they do dub that, but whatever.

Everyone talking about how perfect Momoka's english is good for a japanese anime character (which I STRONGLY agree with). But is there anybody talking about how the teacher is so supportive of her students? I mean, I didn't really watch the anime to exaclty say that much about the matter but the teacher was quick to tell that one mean girl to stop bullying her classmate. That's wholesome

I think people forget that especially in later seasons Doremi touched on some more serious topics, but topics kids can understand. Like being a new kid at school, especially one where you don't even know the language. Of course in this case it was for her father's work, but it can help relate to kids who were refuges into countries like the US or Canada and didn't speak a lick of English, but were thrown in our education system. Even in early seasons on Doremi taking care of her little sister. But I remember this one episode that touched me so much. I was a fifth grade girl going through puberty which is kinda early (I started in 3rd ish grade), and I remember there was an episode where the girls were getting their physicals done. Essentially the nurse was checking their height and weight. And one girl was kind of ashamed that she was developing faster than the rest and I'm like.... broooo that's meeeeeee.

Surprisingly this is true in Japanese Schools, they have strict uniform policies so no piercings in school even if they are only just small ones on the ear. I can only imagine the culture clashes that this episode brought up in order to give Japanese kids the awareness of Western schools having different standards that they may not understand and how foreign kids find it hard to adapt to Japanese Schools.

I was so surprised to hear it. For a lot of people in the States, earrings are given as gifts of love and heirlooms. When I was this age, my prized possession was my little pink jewelry box, especially my mama's little flower studs. I was so proud that she thought I was grown up enough to keep them. If my teacher demanded that I take them off, I would've cried like Momoko...

The whole serie leads to the point they realised they absolutely don't need to become Witches, because all the reasons for they would be witch at the beginning are all cleared. So, if you hate and mostly, if you hate it for the reason you said ( longevity and friendship trough magic), are you sure you understand Ojamajo Doremi ? x) ( And I'm french, so if you wanna use my bad english as an argument, just cut it out x) )
@Hisname226 жыл бұрын
You hated that probably because you missed the absolute main point of the whole show. You lose a lot more than you gain by relying on magic, the easy way out, in order to achieve your goal(s). It was hinted in many many episodes through out all 4 seasons. So I suggest you to go back and watch them until you understand the reason behind their choice. This show is much deeper than it looks in my opinion.

But they chose not to be witches because they would have to stay in the Witch World forever if they did. But they can become witches again when Hana becomes the new Queen, so they’ll become witches and see each other again one day.

@@Hisname22 oh please. First of all, the OG only said they disliked their choice of not staying witches, they didn't say they didn't understand 'why' they chose not to be witches. Just because there's a reason, doesn't mean people can't dislike it. Plus, the whole humans are so much better people than witches because they have to stick to mortal boundaries was so biased and weak. Heck, I would never miss out on the ability to fly anywhere on a broom.
PinkMirrorKirby I wish they'd place actors like this for english parts in anime... I kinda get sick of hearing engrish from a character that was born and lived in UK or US... This is english! IT has an accent, yes but as they say, she was born in japan so it's perfectly normal to keep some japanese accent making it look like something more genuine than if she (Momoko) was born in US.

So cute 🥰. Asuka is like my niece who lived in US for many years and could only understand English at first. We gradually bonded and she makes effort to learn our language too😊
Do you think if Ojamajo Doremi got a redub, they'd get Nami Miyahara to reprise her role as Momoko? Of course the English barrier only really worked for non-English-speaking countries that dubbed the show, so if Nami speaks any other languages that might help a lot.
@icekokoro27086 жыл бұрын
Ellie Belly that may not work if the new dub was faithful to the original. It’s a really tough one. Not like that one episode of Sailor Moon S. For all we know they could cop out on the barrier altogether like ViZ did, but that would take A LOT of rewriting.

In reality, Momoko would speak japanese just fine or at least on basic level even after living in USA for 6 years. Because her parents speak japanese and they by all common logic would've spoken japanese at home, even in the monolingual english environment. But they wanted to stretch Momo-chan's "returnee from America" gimmick even farther by making her to forget most of her native language during ~5 years in the States...

I've always wondered how they set her in the localized version (Magical Doremi), if they have this third season dubbed. I've heard about only the first season localized, Misora city is called "Port Mystic" and placed somewhere in Oregon. They may have set Momoko as someone from a non-English speaking country, but there are some scenes of her past clearly set in NY in the later episodes.
@devontehuntley62743 жыл бұрын
Yeah, how would 4Kids even handle this because the dub already has them "speaking English" so it wouldn't make sense to have her "speaking English" as well, so it would have to be some other language. But yeah, if she's already from the U.S. then that would be an issue. They'd have to change this whole scene around and have her issue be something else and not a language. Hmm, you can only wonder.
@Cure_Hana2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know how accurate this is, but I’ve heard speculation that that 4Kids would’ve renamed Momoko to Madeline, and had her move from France instead of New York.
