July 1979.
Footage of an interview conducted by BBC reporter Martin Young in which he interviews Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu about his plan to return to Nigeria after its return to civilian rule.
Ojukwu was the Nigerian Army Lieutenant Colonel who led a secession of the Eastern Region from the Federation in 1967, and who as the Head of State and General of the Biafran Army fought a 30-month long civil war.
Part of Ojukwu's response:
"I am seeking my return to Nigeria. I am seeking through the constitution established by the military regime. I am seeking it through a national party in Nigeria, a party that transcends ethnic considerations. I am in fact a partner of other parts of Nigeria, the leader of the party for which I am standing is a northerner -- there are many westerners, there are easterners in that party. I am in fact seeking a return, legally and constitutionally, into Nigeria, into a new Nigeria that I think I can serve."
Ojukwu was interviewed in France.
He returned to Nigeria from exile in the Ivory Coast in June 1982 after been granted a pardon by the administration of President Shehu Shagari.
