4:20 The correct altitude for supercharger gear changes depends on atmospheric conditions, airspeed, and throttle setting, so there's not necessarily one altitude where you should always switch. For correct use of superchargers on manual control, the easiest way is to go to cockpit and look at the engine RPM indicator. The supercharger gears are meant to optimize the way the engine produces power at different altitudes. So there is usually one supercharger gear that produces the most power at a given situation. So when you change supercharger gears, you're either switching to the correct gear, or away from the correct gear. The correct gear produces the most power, other settings produce less power. Because of the way constant speed propellers work, they cannot immediately adjust to an instantaneous power change. This means that if your engine power suddenly increases, there will be a momentary RPM increase; if engine power decreases there will be a momentary RPM decrease before the constant speed propeller unit catches up and adjusts the propeller blades accordingly to maintain desired RPM. So, the easiest way to determine correct supercharger gear is to go to cockpit mode, look at the engine RPM indicator, and check what happens to the engine RPM if you switch supercharger gears. If you see a momentary RPM increase, then your engine produces more power on that gear than it did on previous one. If you see a momentary RPM dip, then the engine is producing less power now than it did (and you probably want to change it back).

You're right about playing it in half-year bursts lol. Am currently back into the addiction because I bought the F-5C. While I love the jet, top tier RAB is torture most of the time lol. It's highly capable, I had 5 jets chasing me and had no less than 8 missiles shot at me, and only died because I wasn't looking at the ground. I still do tend to only play a few games at a time, if I'm not doing well, as is the case today 😂.

what I think you’re getting at around 8:10 is that energy can be both potential and kinetic. potential energy stored up by climbing and kinetic energy gained by flying level or in a slight dive to increase speed. being completely out of either one will usually get you sent back to the hangar. from one student to another, good luck with your exams!

a basic rule of thumb for MEC with Yaks, 2000 meters = 2nd supercharger gear. I think the Yak 3 has a 1600 meter change. Also i think Adamthengine Nerd has a mec video with a spreadsheet in the description for climb speeds and gear changes o7

@King Ghidorah No, that one isn't horse shit. You are confusing it for the Br 5.7 Seafire FR 47. The Mk XVII flies more like Spitfire Mk XIVe with a neutered supercharger. It isn't great, but still very usable. The FR 47 is the one that flies like a P-47 D-25 uptiered to 5.7.

@@kingghidorah8106 No, I'm exagerating. It is true that the FR 47 weighs 1000 kgs extra than the F Mk XIVe. It does get 150 octane fuel, which will boost the power output by about 200 hp. That's sadly not enough to offset the weight increase, unless you value the 10 - 20 km/h increase in speed a lot more than most do.

DEFYN please consider flying out the Yak 9M, you might actually enjoy it. It has an aerodynamically improved airframe over the Yak 9, 710 Kph ias rip speed, and 1290 HP. That's 80 More HP than the Yak 9/ same HP as the Yak 3 without 100 octane fuel.

Watch his lim-5p video, basically identical tactics apply. How you wanna deal with the all aspect shitslingers is simple, you fly headon at them on LOW throttle (50-70%) and preturn slightly to one side of them (about 45° in relation to the enemy). There's two things that can happen here, either they aren't able to get a lock at all, or if they do get a lock and launch, you want to turn under and into the missile, if you did it well enough it will miss

While you wait on it or search for other youtuber, some tips on figuring how a plane works. 1. Dont play solo, be aware of your team and the enemy. Go in and retreat a lot. 2. Dont stay 90 degree below more maneuveravle plane in ussr case its japanese and british. 3. Keep track of your speed and what maneuver best for your plane, the rest is basic dogfighting. Goodluck.
