kpop is very inventive, also as far as song structures go, there's been a trend in kpop for a while now for including a rap verse (or two) in 'pop' songs - groups are even formed with at least one rap position. in the case of Blackpink you have 2 out of 4 members that rap - Ddu Du Ddu Du (pronounced Do-do Do-do) and Kill This Love are both structured with opening verses from the two rappers followed by melodic verses from the two vocalists then a very lyrically sparse chorus - not all Blackpink songs have this exact structure. and you're correct about the fact Kill This Love had more English - this album was released just prior to their appearance at Coachella and their world tour so i think it was intentional for broader international appeal

@lazerx18284 жыл бұрын
All of BLACKPINK's songs are written by Teddy Park, he's a Korean-American Rapper/Producer who was hired by the YG company years ago, he's got a very unique style. BLACKPINK songs are known for switching up the style mid-song but it works somehow.Two songs that have country music influence in parts are "WHISTLE" (addictive hook warning!): kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnq2f5qsi9WKotE and their ballad "STAY": kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKu5g5KcrtKNrZY They also killed it at Coachella last year, check it out: BLACKPINK Coachella KILL THIS LOVE: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYLXc6aYfcZ7Z5o (btw their touring band is The Band Six, an American band, they've worked with YG World Tours for years)

Couldn't agree more mate. I thought I was the only guy who noticed that "country-flavored" hook in Whistle. They also got some reggaeton beat on As If It's Your Last and some dominant-phrygian mode on Boombayah that add some "middle-eastern" vibe to it.

The pauses are fine don't worry, we are here for the reactions lol. But yeah they are very much an international group, so they incorporate English in their songs a lot, some of them having versions where the rap is completely English. I would ask you to react to my favourite song of theirs (they have only 13 songs T~T, releasing a new album in March /April tho) "Don't know what to do" but there is no music video for it, just performance videos. K pop is very much different and exciting you should check out new songs too, like "Any Song" by Zico, "HIP' by MAMAMOO and "psycho" by red velvet. Other good groups are there too, dreamcatcher if you are into alternative rock kinda vibe, GFRIEND's most recent song fever is good (they are having a comeback soon), red velvet has some cute bubbly concepts and then some mature concepts like bad boy and peek-a-boo. Twice just last year had a more mature concept with "fancy". Honestly, you should check them all out but there are so many good groups and songs in K-pop. Take count that I mostly follow girl groups so there are the boy groups like EXO, BTS, GOT7, seventeen, NCT, Super Junior, ATEEZ etc. I personally like Super Junior's new song "Super Clap" definitely check that out. lol what i wanted to write was little but i wrote so much and I have more to say, but don't rush too much into k-pop enjoy it as much as you want at your own pace !! Edit: Haa I forgot to include my favourite BLACKPINK cover of "so hot", the rap there is amazing and I love their version of the song, check out the original by wonder girls too if you have time, Old 2000 k-pop with Bigbang , 2NE1 and girl's generation is amazing!

It's crazy how much Blackpink appeals to a lot of people that don't normally enjoy pop music. And their style of pop is closer to true pop, not bubblegum-fluff pop (which other K-pop artists like "Twice" utilize). I think may be why they're so appealing.

I love both of your reactions to BP and I have to agree that the vocal parts on KTL increase the quality of the song so much more than on DDDD but the latter is still my fav for some reason haha. One thing you didn't talk about and I'm surprised was the visuals and the decors of the MV which (to me) look more expensive than a lot of western vids. The MVS are always so important and the budget for them are crazy like hell! Also, BP doesn't use a lot of green screens, the explosion in the first chorus in KTL was indeed very real! That's why I think Kpop has the best MVs they are really beautiful. Please react to BTS too ♡

BLACKPINK are known for their amazing production values, which have steadily ramped up since their debut (although their debut hits are also great), this group shot to the top of the charts right out of the gate! Their company, YG Entertainment, is one of "The Big 3" K-Pop companies in S. Korea. They are a full-service company, meaning they don't "farm out" services to outside companies. They have their own in-house video production facility, they handle all filming, production, marketing and advertising. Here's the behind-the scenes of the "KILL THIS LOVE" video, the explosion in the Tomb Raider scene was real!: "BLACKPINK - 'Kill This Love' M/V MAKING FILM": kzbin.info/www/bejne/jl7Eknepas2Yh5Y (turn on the subtitles!)

You may have the most honest and candid reaction I've seen so far to BlackPink. BlackPink was my gateway into KPop and I've been into it since. Pop and boy bands were probably my least favorite genre, ever. But just like you I discovered KPop is something else entirely. But unlike other reaction videos (which I like to watch to validate that I'm not the only one witnessing this phenomenon) you don't just sit there and gush over them. If you have an opinion, you state it respectfully and I get it. It might be a hook I like and you don't, but I get it. Respect. You just made me a subsciriber

When you say that K-pop is different, I say I totally agree. I feel like the Koreans are giving us next-level shit, and it's so fucking CATCHY, I have my favourite girl group songs swirling around in my head throughout most of my days ..... and nights. And look man, I've been hearing music for fifty-three years, and no other genre has given me the kind of intense eargasms I experience while listening to some of these K girl groups! Some of their songs literally put a smile on my face when I hear them. It's insane, and addictive. Here are a few other songs you might want to check out ..... Bvndit's "Dramatic" and "Dumb" Everglow's "Bon Bon Chocolat", "Adios", and "Dun Dun" CLC's "Me" Favorite's "Loca" (look for the dance practice) Everglow's (actually sung by Produce 48 girls, but Everglow is doing the choreo) "Rumor" (dance practice) Red Velvet's "Psycho" mv And for something more vocally amazing, try Laboum's "Turn it On" and "Firework". Mamamoo's "Egotistic", and "Starry Night" Enjoy brother!!!

You've mentioned in both Blackpink reactions how the structure of the song is unusual. To provide a little more context, Kpop generally does have a different structure to American pop. First, as others have mentioned most Kpop bands have at least one rapper in the group permanently so rap is more imbedded in the structure than just leaving room for a single verse for a featured rapper. Also, many Kpop songs have abrupt (even more than these) feeling change ups to the song so it feels like listening to three or four songs in one. This was made famous by Girls' Generation's "I've got a boy" all the way back in 2013 and has become a common approach in Kpop. One explanation a lot of people use to explain what "I've got a boy" was inspired by was the impatience club DJs in Korea switching rapidly between songs. It takes some getting used to but if you end up listening to more Korean music... there is so much great Korean music to discover..you may get used to it and even prefer it to the more predictable and imo overly repetitive American structure. I hope that's helpful!

Just wanted to say, yes, pausing can be annoying and some folks do it way too much for copyright purposes only. You had several pauses but had valid points and comments which make them bearable and acceptable. I, personally want your opinion. That’s why I watch a reaction. I think BLACKPINK will make the Kpop more recognize after BTS started the trends. The difference between the 2 groups are girls in BP can sing and rap English as most of the members (3) are English Speaking. The girls can hold interview in any English speaking show and 3 can answer fluently. If they can come up with good content song this year soon, they will big. I will not be surprise if they will be recognize in many awards as their style is merging to near American standard but still had Kpop on it.

nice reaction. pausing is one of many ways to avoid copyright strike. it really depends on how often you pause during the reacting and pause at the right moments. Blackpink is getting very popular in the west or should I say very appealing to the western audience due to their music style, girl crush/bad ass concept. rumor is that they are gonna have a comeback (In Kpop world 'comeback' means return to the Kpop scene or release new songs/album since last time). one thing fans (blinks - fandom name) have been complaining about Blackpink is that their agency (YG entertainment) has never released enough songs/albums since their debut. this comeback is gonna be big as it's been way way way too long since their last release (Let's kill this love) BTW 2 of the members (Jennie and Rose) are very fluent in English, Lisa is Thai, who is also fluent in English and the only member not so is Jisoo. You can check out some unhelpful guide to Blackpink videos on YouTubbe if you wanna know more about the girls. keep it up bro...

Thank you for your honest reaction to Blackpink! I understand you bro, the first time I listened to this song it felt so weird for me too. Maybe because I was never into Kpop. I was one of those people who hated kpop for no reason. But Blackpink's music is not the kpop I assumed it was. I was shocked of how I weirdly like their music. Now I stan Blackpink and no other Kpop group. Of course I sometimes listen to other kpop groups cause there are a lot of good once too but my support will always be to Blackpink. If you want to listen to them singing an english song, you should react to their cover of Sure Thing by Miguel. But it would be nice if you also try to listen to their other songs like Boombayah and Whistle. Btw, my first ever seen video of Blackpink was their Kill This Live performance at Coachella.
