I agree with you on the logo, i wish they wouldn't try to clone the branding as well, one thing i like a bout Ganzo knives for example is that while they might draw heavily from other designs, they never pretend to be those exact knives, which I think is more fair, they also use decent steel and build quality etc. There are other brands like that, im ok with that. Not a fan of full on counterfeit though. And when it comes to heavy use, i will use a heavy duty knife. Happy Thanksgiving man.

If for no other reason than the integrity of a channel it's good to steer clear of clones as well. I try my best to avoid them. They show up with worse steel, may or may not have good build quality and may or may not be the steel they claim. The IP theft isn't a good look either. Straight up counterfiets are of course objectively worse and usually terrible all the way around.

It's the IP theft of counterfeits that bothers me. The patents have run out, so clones (lookalikes) are fair game if they don't brand themselves as Benchmade/Spyderco. In fact, the $5 Walmart knife looks more like a Benchmade Bugout than the OK Knives Bugout counterfeit. The OK branded knives have their own look and feel even if they're mostly copying Spyderco/Benchmade.

I just try to pass on them when they're 99-100% identical. As long as it's different enough to set itself apart it's fine having the same mechanisms and such. And of course it's fairly subjective and matter of personal tastes and perspective when you try to define a clone as other than a 100% copy. That line's hard to draw.

I’m okay with clones. I have a couple Wugouts that live in the glove boxes of my cars. Are they as good as a real Bugout? No. But they don’t pretend to be real and are worth at least $10. But counterfeit? Ones that pretend to be the real thing, including brand names and logos? Those are lies. I try to avoid supporting liars who try to make money from other people’s hard work.

I agree. I have lots of clones/counterfeits, and I like them. But I don't see the point of buying any more now that I can get a Walmart for $5 or $10.
