This is such an incredible franchise. The entire concept, with the great action tough guys but they care about each other so much, hug and cry together, and having Murtaugh be a great family man, with good kids, rather than writing in some disfunction. Already great with Riggs and Murtaugh and Murtaughs family, then last movie we added in the great Leo, and bring him back here, and now adding Lorna another great character. This family grows every movie, and they're all so perfect.

I love the opening with Riggs and Murtaugh arguing over a time bomb. It's a quintessential Lethal Weapon moment. Also, they did actually blow up a building for that scene. They sought out a building that was scheduled for demolition and found one in Florida, so they filmed the scene around it.

I liked Lethal Weapon 2 the best, just because the introduction of Leo was such a game-changer, and I thought Patsy Kensit was just stunning. One and Three are tied for a close second, with me, followed closely by Four. Honestly, this is just a great franchise.

The opening scene explosion was filmed in downtown Orlando (I lived about 45 minutes or so where it was filmed). I still remember the news covering this and how big of a story it was. If I remember, it blew out windows around the area..

I’ve watched this entire series A LOT. These movies are like an old friend, (or a favorite t-shirt, worn in and perfectly representing the 90’s action movie style;)! They ( the writers)really stayed true to the characters that the actors created, which is really rare nowadays. I’m looking forward to your reaction to the 4th ( and final?;) film in this series! In 1969 as a coming home gift upon my return from Viet., my father arranged for me to spend a week driving race cars at the Jim Russel Racing Drivers School (Willow Springs, Ca.). While there I met Paul Newman, Dino Martin, & Peter Duel. Peter Duel starred in "Alias Smith & Jones", "Love on a Roof Top", & "Gidget". I remember sitting in a Formula Ford when Peter walked up & handed me a dog biscuit. He took a bite of one himself & said that they make your teeth whiter! Then I see Mel Gibson doing it in this movie.

It's the peak of the franchise. More of what we love. Connective tissue between plot and character still sells it. The action gets better with each film. Murtaugh in his dilemmas of retirement and taking a young man's life hit very hard. Riggs finding love again was a happy moment. For a internal affairs cop, Lorna (Rene Russo) is rightfully edgy enough to match Riggs. Joe Pesci as Leo doesn't get enough screen time. Understandable, but his character having like several jobs sounds kind of fun and funny to see. The director's wife, Lauren Shuler-Donner has a cameo as one of the nurses that Leo talks to. Her and Richard formed a production company, The Donners' Company. I liked the 2 songs; It's Probably Me by Sting (film version is hard to find) and Runaway Train by Elton John & Eric Clapton. With LW4 as the swan song, you better have some tissues ready.

I had the impression that the way they kept the franchise interesting, is by instead of showing and re-showing Riggs and Roger's relationship, they introduce new great characters. Gradually they start feeling like an extended family. I can't decide on a ranking on the franchise. I tend to think 3 is my favorite one, but then the scene from 2 where the character who I want to see eliminated the most gets the container dropped on him and when Riggs looks like he is in his last minutes and tells Roger "throw those cigarettes, they're going to kill me" and 2 pops up, then I remember in 1 when Riggs shows to give Roger the bullet as a Christmas present and 1 pops up, then I remember when Riggs shoots the villain through the bulldozer and when Riggs is proud of Lorna fighting and 3 pops up again. And the cycle repeats again and again with different scenes.

24:33 Three Stooges are fairly important here. Lorna has the Three Stooges on her home computer. In Lethal Weapon 1, Riggs acts like the Three Stooges in the way he attacks the guys in the Christmas Tree lot. In Lethal Weapon 2, Riggs and his dog Sam sit on the couch watching the Three Stooges on TV. With a pattern established that Riggs loves the Three Stooges, when he finds them on Lorna's PC, this is the first clue that he might have things in common with Lorna.

My order is 1, 2 and 3 tied, 4. And yeah, what makes them stand out for me is the chemistry, with the whole cast, really, but especially with Gibson and Glover. You don't get that very often. I think that's why the tagline for Part 2 is "the magic is back". Cos their chemistry is magic. You should watch Maverick after Part 4, another Gibson/Donner collaboration (and I'n leaving it rhere).

One other thing, I like how each movie puts a spotlight on a different issue of modern society. The first movie was drugs and mental health, the second went with apartheid and racism, the third in ways on crooked cops, including the jokes about Murtaugh hiding money in a Swiss bank and all that, and street gangs and guns, and the fourth movie, well, you'll see what subject that tackles soon I hope.

"dumdums" actually were/are real bullets, apparently. I think. I wondered what Riggs meant when said the term 'dumdum' in this film, and then I remembered 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit,' when Eddie Valiant has his TOON GUN, and the six TOON bullets. when three of them go "the wrong way" when he fires them in toontown, he exclaims: "Dumb-Dumbs!" most amusing.

The next one is the cherry on top. It’s scary and heartwarming and sweet and silly and all the good things you can think of. I don’t believe there could have been a way to top the last one. And they didn’t try to milk it, they stopped while it was still perfect.
