I just lost my mind a little and ordered one of these. I have been a little depressed lately and figured making music would help. I have never played a synth or a groove box before so I am going to rely on your videos for help. I get my op-xy tomorrow so I will be watching all your videos, so keep up the great content!

Bro, this is the best comment I have seen on the internet in a long while. Stumbled upon this channel and stumbled upon your comment for a reason. MUSIC is absolutely the cure to being bummed or whatever is going on boredom whatever. AND these grove boxes allow you to get lost in them. They are frustrating but in a beautiful way, you can’t break it / only learn more and dive deeper. I have elektron stuff, sequencers, groove boxes, I sell ones and buy new ones. I am no professional but I LOVE to get lost in them and get out of my head for a few hours. That is the joy of synths and groove boxes. 🙏

Sorry to hear about this, but hopefully jamming on the opxy will be fun for you! You definitely picked a very good machine to get as your first synth! It’s both really fast to get started with, and also very deep so you can spend a lot of time with it and keep learning new stuff!

Did you have to lock the brain in manual mode you know the knob to the right?
@r10makesbeats4 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! And I don’t think so, setting it to a key in manual mode was enough 😄

Great technique! Your XY vids are both helpful and entertaining. Would love to see a follow up where you actually resample and chop these into a drum kit!
@r10makesbeats4 күн бұрын
Appreciate it! And I might have to use the OP1 for the chopping part, because the workflow on the OPXY is very cumbersome haha

Would love to see a video on making Dilla style beat using nudge for drunken drums. Let’s get it!!

opxy sucks at chopping samples, but i can def make dilla style drum loops on it and some jazzy chords / bass lines 😁😁😁

Can you make a tutorial or deep dive into step components and how they affect percussion elements and melodic elements. Ideas and examples on how to apply multiple? 😅 I think that would be a sick video.

Everything I've heard on this device so far sounds very thin.

It’s KZbin plus KZbin producers. I loaded up my own samples and shit sounds sick especially with the compressor which is pretty nice. A lot KZbin producers don’t exactly make good shit. However, a lot of times they’re just trying to bang out a tutorial and a quick beat so I’m sure those aren’t too focused on how it sounds over just showing some features.

Can anyone tell me what is thin and hollow sound is like? I still can't really tell it, is it mean the loud part isn't covered large area enough like a sharp triangle shape instead of a rounded top of triangle shape?
@r10makesbeats4 күн бұрын
Tbh it’s probably my audio chorusing out during the recording process - idk why it happens but that’s what you’re hearing lol. When you use the saturator/eq/compressor you can def fatten up sounds.

@ I haven’t made any nice videos, but I do have a crappy short video just showing how it can do some complex live sounding drum patterns and more realistic piano playing if you wanna see that. I can post a short video
