For me, I never take that hammer because I never use my shield special to do damage, I use it to spread statuses around for priv status. But those are some very nice numbers appearing! Enjoyed the run :)

I go for the hammer just for the dread flight upgrade, which lets you hit (I believe) 6 enemies with a single shield throw. If you stack this with a good doom build, you can be dealing 500+ damage to every enemy in an encounter with one throw. If you get Artemis’s universal critical hit boon, you can even do upwards of 1,500 damage to several enemies if you’re lucky

If all the chaos shields ricocheted, it would feel a lot better imo, but as it is it feels really awkward to use for me. If they wanted to nerf it down to just two or three extra shields, but make them bounce at least once, i think id use chaos shield a lot more. As is i just go for zeus or beo 100% of the time

Dashing Flight is something I thought about it working well on Chaos since you can’t do anything, until the special comes back and this just makes the special come back faster. Also from what you saying, this hammer gives the Shield a dash special which is a stronger version of the normal special, like how the fists have a dash special.

I recently did a run with Zag shield, Dashing Flight and the other hammer that lets the special hit more enemies before returning with Poseidon on the special. Got Sea Storm going right at the end with some additional Zeus boons. Don’t remember the heat (lower than 20 I know that) That was tasty 👌🏻 not my favorite Shield build, but fun nonetheless.

Sea Storm is really the uno reverse card for things like Chiron special and Lucifer attack. Like, the damage might be fine without it, but after getting it you really melt things.

Impressive build & run, man ! Fun to discover something new in Hades after all these years. Wondering how it would fare if you had a Backstab damage from either/both Chaos & Athena. And sure, Explosive return would have cleaned ! Splitting headache on its own is mid, but paired with Aphro's duo boon that gives you 3 more stacks of hungover for weakned ennemies, it jumps to a total of 12% more crit, which IS making a difference. Aphro-Dio-Artemis are one of my favorite siblings trio, they've got great synergies together. Combine all their 3 duos, and no matter which weapon you got, you get yourself a powerful crit boost (or replace Dio with Athena for Parting shot if you run a cast build and Deadly Reversal instead of Splitting headache). As for that hammer, I'm guessing the reason why nobody both in good or bad hammers discussion never talks about it is simply because it's exactly that : Not a particularly good, nor a particularly bad hammer. It just is. For those who want to grab it and find nothing else, it can help in a crunch.

I think the hammers could use buffs, honestly. Like what if the extra special bounce hammer had a damage increase like chain shot on the bow? The main problem I feel is that the shield hammers are just...lame. Like they don't spice things up enough or at all. The hammers I tend to use either make the weapon less clunky, like sudden rush or the charge shot, or allow me to circumvent using the shield to the fullest, like pulverizing blow and the double attack hammer, so I just have either half a weapon or what feels like what the weapon should be to begin with.

The builds that surprise me is when I go back into the Admin Chamber and look at my first few wins and I thought to myself "holy moly, what the fuck was I cooking here" LMAOOO I was probably doing a shiny run and taking the highest rarities, but I guess it worked out. I really need to experiment more with weird boons but sometimes they just don't feel interesting? I dunno :P

Dude I swear to god and on my grave, I just used this combo last night, around the time you uploaded, and I didn't even know you had uploaded. I feel like I'm on the Truman Show. Edit: This combo is fantastic on mouse and keyboard, cause you can dash, aim and charge the shield rush, then immediately after it hits, dash to an open spot on the map and right click at the enemy you just hit with the rush. So you're hitting with the upgraded special immediately after the attack. On M+KB, the absolute best thing to do is rebind special to right click and rebind cast to Q. By default, I think they're switched for some ungodly reason.

Just tried this, turns out Dashing Flight + Dread Flight (special hits more foes) together are REALLY funny. Especially when combined with the multi shields thrown from Chaos aspect, you just get a bunch of shields ping ponging around the screen like mad. I also got very lucky to get +3 dashes from Hermes, Hyper Sprint, and an Epic Rush Delivery. Plus Dio on special, pressure points, support fire, hunter's mark, and Splitting Headache. What a goofy run.

This seems like something that has such a high level barrier of entry. Like, you have to bull rush and THEN dash and THEN throw. And it’s like where do you rush? Where do you dash? Where do you throw? And you have to work all that around the dodge timings in boss fights? 🤯 I don’t think I’m nearly ready for such a complex play style, but it is fun to watch.

My issue with Chaos Shield is that it is the one Aspect that does not do what it says it does: the Special does not throw multiple Shield Special shields, since they do not bounce around, it throws multiple somethings that pretends to be a bit like the Shield Special. Imagine my disappointment playing Chaos Shield the first time, having used a boatload of precious Blood on it, and just not getting anything close to what one would expect out of it based on the description itself. Would it be too strong to have it throw around multiple normal Specials? Maybe. But at least it'd do what it says it does.

Nah it's not great, just buffs the main shield slightly (but also causes it to be out for longer and thus takes longer to charge a new Chaos throw).

It's not a bad build. Works well without the dash even because the shield can sit on an enemy and reapply doom as you trigger it with an attack (or vice versa)

If i have a base dmg lets call it 100% then i get a boon that gives me 50% attack dmg thats 150%. For example after this when i get a chaos boon that gives me 50% attack dmg that means i have 200% total, or that 150% will be my new 100% and the chaos boon adds to this more 50%. This confuses me from the start and i have been playing this game for 2 years at least.

So basically most damage increases are additive but some are multiplicative. Chaos boons I believe are each a unique multiplier which is why they're so damn strong. Also any hammer that says it increases BASE damage are a unique multiplier.

Others already said: 25% chance the first chamber has a hammer. For videos like this where we want to experiment with a specific hammer, I use a mod called Ello's Starting Boon Selector to make sure we get it.

It shouldn't be surprisng this worked -- throwing 5 shields at +20% crit chance means at least one of them should crit each time. So your regular shields are doing 60 and your crit shields are doing... uh, 90? Crit is additive like other dmg modifiers, not multiplicative, right? But still, against a boss if you hit all 5 that's 330 dmg.

That said, executing the special for max effect is basically a 4-step process, and I reckon there are other builds that work about as well but are much less complicated to use.

I don't know what to tell ya, this is how long a Hades run takes. I could sit here and chop out bits of combat and get it down to like 20 minutes maybe but not everyone enjoys that style.
