OKA TRUCK BUILD SERIES EP2 - Custom Bed Fabrication, Actuator Install & Internal Design

In this episode we make some real exciting progress.. we visit a number of suppliers, fit our actuators (something we've never done before). Witness some really cool 360 design technology to support our internal design and show the process of our custom bed fabrication. There's so much happening and a lot of pressure to get it done. 3D modeller here, what he was doing with that 3D scanner, was creating millions of points, each with its own X,Y,Z coordinate in space, called a point cloud. With a point cloud we can create a 3D model and also render it to make it look photorealistic, then from that back engineer or in this case, design a complete new concept as in this case, to maximise the use of space in the compartment.

Careful with imbalance of actuators. Their speed depends on load (at same voltage). May need additional (buttons) to "trim" action, else you may twist your roof. Check new (Nov 2023) design RULES for lithium battery installation in Oz RVs.

Our current setup: Truck is a 1999 Ford Ranger 4x4 and our RV TRailer is 14 ft with popout beds named "Wee-Baby-Camper". We did what you guys are doing, fulltime, way back in the 1970's. With a 66 Skoolie (Bigbus) towing a 68 Combi (LittleBus). Our youngest Grandchild, Zee, graduated Virtual High School last week. Austin, Texas. Luv your Videos. ✌

He didn't nail that bed! He welded it! Instead of 2 seats behind the driver's seat, & 1 seat behind the passenger seat. I would have made 4 seats behind the driver's seat. 2 facing backward & 2 facing forward (facing each other) with a fold out table that would double as seats for the kids & a four seat diner (eliminating the dinette at the back) Behind the passenger seat a bigger fridge/freezer & pantry. Behimd the door on the passenger side would be the sink/stove/ovem & more cupboards. This would leave a nice size shower/toilet room on the driver side behind the seats/diner. Just my thoughts. Karstan you can purchase sleeves that will keep those rams even water proof . They will constantan down and stretch when you extend the rams out !

Looking great. What an interesting build. I've used that Car Builders insulation and it is great. Hope you used the waterproof version so it doesn't get wet and soggy. Suggest, if you haven't already, you line the transmission tunnel and footwells to reduce heat and noise. Will both the kids get beds? Are you looking at going gasless with plenty of solar and a big lithium battery powering an induction cooker and electric hot water heater? It's the new trend in caravans. We are very impressed with our induction cooker. They work fast, which reduces power consumption.

With those rear actuators on an angle they might try and push the roof forward?? Usually they are straight up and down. You could easily fit them inside you would only need that 70mm dia hole in the cabinets.. Loving the build.

Haha .. they are not engineered to be on swivels ..and now the actuators are behind the seats .. so won't be usable. id be worried on how long the base would last on 100000s of corigations !

Areyou going to put dust covers over the actuators? like the old front shocks of motorbikes? See in Germany. the sides of the popup made from the stuff paddle boards are made of. just inflate it with a few psi and you have a stable and well insulated wall.

They are firgelli bullet 50’s. They haven’t shown in the video but you want to use the correct control box the fcb 1 so you can calibrate and sync them otherwise they will twist the roof. They have 300kg+ of force each

They look like the same Figarelli Bullet Series Actuators that are sitting in my shed waiting to get installed in my Isuzu NPS camper. I almost made the same mistake with the length but re-measured just before I pushed the order button and discovered I needed the shorter ones. Mine will also spaced in from one end so I bought the sync control box so that they will all go up at the same speed. All 4 of my actuators will be inside and I’m not sure if I need to space them away from the sides so that the poptop canvas has somewhere to go?

Yeps that's them !! These are the 200lb ones .. we have been waiting for the New FCB-1 control box to be available in Australia ... Just purchased it 2 days ago and will get that in ! also the momentary rocker switch so the kids don't lower the roof without me knowing haha .. our front ones are 100mm away from the canvas ..fits fine .. just make sure the split pin is fully bent so it doesn't puncture the canvas ! you will see in the next video !

I just pulled my controller out to have a look. It’s the old model with no LCD screen. I was thinking I might also use an isolation switch so I don’t accidentally try to put the roof up while the catches are still locked. :-) I’m keen to see your roof in action as well as the rest of the build. Watching other peoples progress keeps me motivated to keep building!
