Okay, let's make some FAUN LEGS! (a 'Lady Tumnus' Costume)

Fursuit maker here! An xacto / hobby knife is the best tool to cut faux fur! You don't want to cut all the way through, just through the backing, and this keeps the fur on the edge from looking "choppy" as well as keeps the mess way down. For the expanding foam, it does work best in layers. It cures with exposure to air, so anything tucked on the inside won't cure. Do a layer, let that cure, then cut into the skin to remove it so the next layer you put down has something to bite into. It'll also be much stronger this way, as you'll have less bubbles and voids. Once you cut expanding foam, it is not waterproof, so always seal it before painting! Unfortunately, the hoof shoes are uncomfortable no matter how they're made - especially when wearing them outside. They can be a bit more comfortable depending on the shoe, but you're standing on your toes (as you said) the whole time and essentially tiptoeing on stilts. It is not easy, but does get a bit better with practice! I only wear shoes with "invisible" heels for paws / hooves to events instead of fully removing the heel for a bit more comfort.

In regards to that last part about the Turkish Delight. Its traditional flavoring is rose water, which is extremely floral and very much an acquired taste. When I tried it for the first time it tasted like my grandmother’s fancy bathroom soaps that I took a bite out of when I was 3 because they looked pretty.

Fry's Turkish Delight is alright. That goopy, gelatine-like, over-sweetness is covered in chocolate 😂 ... I also imagine a subtler, more authentic flavour being nicer.

I always pictured the candy like a square-ish version of a Ferro Roche... Heelless high heels are a thing! They're specifically designed to balance without that heel support so they're much more stable than regular ones with the heels cut off, making them safer and more comfortable to wear. I've used them for a horse hoof effect with great success in the past.

If you have to cut faux fur in the future use a boxcutter or exacto knife on the wrong side of the fabric so the fur itself isn't being cut into, it'll spare you the mess and you won't give the fabric a weird haircut

Part of the reason that people use resin for hoof shoes is because it's heavy. Normally that's a drawback of resin, but with heelless high heels it adds some extra stability and keeps you from falling back. Also, tip for dying fake fur fabric: if you take a pet comb and brush through the fur after putting the paint in it it will break up the paint and fix some of the crunchyness

As someone who wore heelless wedges (basically hoof style platform wedge shoes) for awhile, I can tell you that there's a lot more structure to balance your weight forward than just removing the heels. You basically end up building in a spine from the heel to the ball of your foot if you were really going that route. That said... I couldn't tell that the hooves fell apart except that you indicated it. Yeah, they looked a little soft, but from the video? It wasn't *incredibly* obvious. This, however, makes my back burner plans to make a Fearne cosplay more possible!

The Krampus idea is a really cool one! And you could pop the seams on the underside of the arm and going a bit down the sides and put in gussets so you will be able to put your arms down (when you get to school at least 😅)

I love C.S. Lewis because he blends pagan mythology and folk lore with abrahamic religion in a really superb and delightful way. He's my favorite modern fairy tale teller. And if anyone is interested I highly recommend his space trilogy, it's criminally underrated.

Apparently Tolkien didn't like that Lewis mixed his mythologies in Narnia, and he didn't think anyone would read them. 😂 I love both authors but I'm glad Tolkien was wrong. Even with professionally engineered "hoof boots" there is risk of injury and bruising, so I don't blame you at all for retiring your homemade options. (There's a reason many commercial versions of this look have more of a stilt infrastructure that extends up to the knee.) This was a really fun experiment, and the shoot came out quite well!

As a MASSIVE Narnia fan, I cannot begin to describe how stoked I was when I saw the thumbnail and title for this video! I agree fully that The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is a Christmas movie and I will die gladly on that hill. (Fun fact, my introduction to the Chronicles of Narnia was through the 2005 movie my parents took me to as a late birthday/early Christmas present. I fell in love with the world of Narnia through the movie, read all of the books shortly after watching the film for the first time, and to this day The Chronicles of Narnia remains my all-time favorite book series.) Also, I've been having a really cruddy day/week so this is exactly the mood boost I needed. *EDIT* The reason why the internet says that Narnia lied about Turkish Delights is because Turkish Delights are traditionally flavored with rose water rather than a fruit or nut flavor and given the fact that rose water is a very acquired taste, most people are extremely disappointed when they try authentic Turkish Delights. (My mom actually tried a piece on my behalf a couple of months ago while she was at work because they did a thing where people brought in dishes from other countries and someone brought in Turkish Delights flavored with rose water and she tried it and hated it. When she told me about trying it, I was like "I appreciate you doing that for me, but I could have told you not to try it!")

Adult human actors in beaver suits playing Mr. and Mrs. Beaver!! (I for real love this version of Mr. and Mrs. Beaver so, so much.) Random animated critters superimposed over the live-action film because CGI wasn't really a thing! It's just truly a great viewing experience that I recommend.

As someone who made hooves using resin and a saw off high heel, the weight of the resin amd width of the base of the hoof helps alot with counter balancing your weight off the heel. I also wear high heels alot for long periods so my endurance for uncomfortable and difficult to walk in shoes might be different. But i felt fairly stable at outdoor renaisance fairs on uneven ground.

Fun thing, I was actually going through the Christmas movie alignment chart while I was watching Crimson Peak to decide if it was a Christmas movie. I mean, the main character gets visited by four spirits with a dire warning, snow, there's red, greens, golds. Christmas! I actually made Turkish Delight and in the comments there were people who didn't understand how Edmund could betray his family for a mediocre treat. A defender of Edmund pointed out that they had been rationing for months maybe years and Turkish Delight would've been a week's worth of sugar. Also, learn from me, don't coat it in powdered sugar if you make it. If the instructions say to do so, don't. It'll melt, it'll be slimy. Don't. Corn starch is all you need

Maybe it didn't turn out exactly as you wanted, but I did fully grasp out loud during the reveal when you moved the umbrella to show your face!!! And yes, it's a Christmas movie/book! Santa Claus is able to return and bring gifts when the Witch starts losing her power. (You could also call it a Spring movie though, because the Winter ends so quickly once the spell is broken...) Fun build. The end look for the photo shoot looks good. I've been considering making some sort of hoof shoe. My choice for a base shoe is a chunky stacked platform heel in clear acrylic so that I can leave the heel on so I will have the support and stability of the heel but the clear material will give the illusion of the heel not being there. As for working with faux fur, wear some sort of eye protection and a basic mask while working with it. A scratched cornea sucks. Trust me on this. A wire pet brush helps fluff up the fur around the seams and smooth the fur into the shape/direction you want. It also helps soften painted/dyed fur. I wish I had photos of the faun legs and costume I made for a friend years ago to share. It was a fun project.

6:12 - "the foam gulped up the glue" When using contact cement on foam like that: don't use a brush. Use a bit of foam and DAB it onto the surface. Same with the fabric: dab it on. A little should go a pretty long way; you can always dab on another layer if you need to, but yeah- with a brush, the foam will sponge it right up. Wildwood contact cement works great with foam, when applied well. A foam dauber has always worked best, for me. 6:40 - moon walk!! Wow! Yeah, man, you did it great!

Totally loved this chaos that is Rachel creating. I think it turned out beautifully. And yes The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a Christmas movie just like Die Hard is a Christmas movie. I was introduced to it ages ago when the animated movie came out. I begged my Dad to get me the book and I didn't stop there. I have all the books, the series that played on PBS back in 1988-9 and the more recent movies that were released in the theater. Ironically I don't have a copy of the animated movie that started my love of Narnia. See you next year. Can't wait for the Chaos to start!

What a fun and imaginative project! Rip: when putting a non-stretchy garment over something, it's easiest to fit it on without anything extra inside (like the mannequin legs) so there's lots of room for squishing things around and into place, then putting the combined garment onto the mannequin or person as a whole unit.

I have a tip for the hooves!!! What I would do is not use heels use flats or boots (cuz they hurt less and I can't walk in normal heels) and use craft foam (the flat kind you can get at Walmart) and make the hooves that way. It'll be less dainty and more on the cartoon side but it'll hurt less. Also I do suggest watching fursuit videos on deer and goats if you want a more in depth tutorial. also they can probably explain better than I did 😅

I love this idea and it’s very cute but as someone who works with fur to make my own crafts I was dying. I’ve made my own pair of pants like this (in fursuit terms it’s called digitigrade) I really recommend looking up furry tutorials on how to get a general idea on how to make the legs. To make the shape more rounded to your thighs out, you’d have to use three pieces of foam and cut them into the shape you wanted. For the hooves, I would have went for shoes with wedge style heels and stitched it to the legs themselves or if you wanted separate just put the legs over the seams of where the shoe fur meets and the leg fur ends. I definitely recommend buying fur online (there are tons of places with better fur than Joan’s and better prices). Remember to keep fur direction in mind and brush out any paint or it’ll clump and feel gross. Also hot glue is your best friend with these. Making the padding takes a lot of sitting and carving down and finessing to get right but it’s totally worth it. There are so many great tutorials online!!

Highly recommend looking into more fursuit makers, but there's also makers like Chaos Costumes for hoof shoes! Also, high heels aren't meant to be used without the heel, so just cutting it off will stress the shoe where it would normally have support (and if the sole doesn't have a metal plate, it can even break). There are heels high heels you can get for this though!

The legs turned out so cool! The hooves look really good from the outside, but it definitely makes sense to have hoof shoes made if worn in the long term. I’m pretty sure hoof shoes are re-balanced to help with stability. It is still so cool that you made a temporary pair!

I used expanding foam for a minotaur cosplay on some heelless shoes. (Unfortunately the shoes were a size too small and I only wore them once and then never again :( ) Worked well for me but I didn't use as much foam on the initial coating as you did. Would recommend trying that method again for hopefully another project you could be excited for as they are really light. I did make an upward curve around the "toes" of the hooves as I made them chonky and stick out a bit. Helped for when I walked that the end of the hooves were rounded at the bottom. So they were almost levitating rather than level with the actual shoe toe. So cute the outfit you had at the end.

I just wanna say something that a lot of cosplayers already know, just making sure others know too. When cutting faux fur, only cut the backing so it doesn't end up a scraggly mess. If needing to shave fur to a different length, cut around all the pieces, NOT CUTTING THEM OUT INDIVIDUALLY, and shaving the whole big piece at once. ALSO! If creating a tailor any sort, if you don't want the poofy scraggly top like an angry animal, when you sew it, shave the top off! Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

thank you for making this! i've been working on a krampus fursuit for years with the similer idea of padding mixed with heels and the hoof placed on the toes. but because my sewing machine hates me and the goblin in my brain likes hand sewing all over the room. i needed motivation like this video to tell me "hey this isn't inpossible! go finish the darn fursuit!"
