my assumption when they say they have other plans for that 'content' they dont even mean the ascendancies themselves, but rather working some of those ideas into other ascendancy reworks or updates to the blood magic keystone, bringing back the characters in another league, etc etc

What I would do in GGG place is use the wildwood ascendancies, and expand on them, so that all the special things from Sanctum (item slot), Kalandra (OP rings), Weapon passive trees are accessible by taking the appropriate ascendancy. Meaning you can have any of those OP things, but only one of them at a time by choosing appropriate ascendancy.

"borrowed power" doesn't exist in poe. After a league ends your character goes to standard and keeps all of it's power. Nothing gets taken away, this isn't a mmorpg where you keep playing the same character after an expansion.

You say you want all that power, but in truth: you don't. Player retention will be even more in the gutter if you get handed your mageblood or bis weapon at lvl10. They will have to seriously rebalance EVERYTHING in the game if they add all those ludicrous leagues back in.

Honestly if all they'd returned from wildwood was the backpack inventory I'd be sold already :') Reworking the entire ascendencies might be something else though. I wonder if they take a spin into more power or rather take a deeper dive in the more utility features such as the backpack. I'd prefer the latter to be very honest that'd be massive if we can customize some QoL that wouldn't otherwise be considered okay in GGG's eyes but could become okay if you need to made the trade off between other features on that same level. Do I reall want that backpack? Or do I want a hotkey to click all my utility flasks in 1 go perhaps? I'm just making stuff up there but I mean that'd be a serious consideration for me at least. Mageblood isn't usually in my budget range by the time I'm done with getting gear worthy of a mageblood to begin with and while peasant mageblood tech is great, it does require you to get hit without flasks first and it does leave room for some downtime since it triggers when it's full, not when you know you actually need it. But on the other hand I am a massive lootgoblin and I keep accidentally clicking stuff I need on my at all times into my stash on accident all the damn time because I just spamclick the general direction until it's all gone :') The backpack cured that problem for me because it allowed me to keep the important stuff seperate.

I don't know if they would throw all these mechanics back into the game - even in weakened forms it could get so crazy. But I do wonder why they don't rotate league mechanics in & out. There are lots of ways to do things but usually one best way so each mechanic is used for only a portion of what it can do. If on the other hand you are right - then maybe they have just thrown balance out the window, at least for a bit.

what if it is super boring and convoluted like last league? Its a Shrødingers League right now.. Unpopular opinion but PoE1 is way to bloated and is getting zero to none new players once PoE2 comes out.. Only diminishing returns of old players in sight? What insane person would start PoE1 fresh instead of 2? They should focus all their forces into PoE2 and retire PoE1 into legacy mode.

Naa PoE2 will be alot diffrent than PoE1. PoE2 will more be a diablo 4, poe darksouls combination, while PoE1 still will be a fast running arpg slayer map runner game. There alot of players who will stay and enjoy PoE1 leagues over PoE2 release.
