There is no "special strength from within", his power is in accepting help, in accepting allies, in *trust*. It's a really cool subversion of the trope, actually - the strongest person is the person willing to trust that someone has his back, that he doesn't have to face his problems alone.

14:40 When you make a bard in 5e, you choose specific instruments you are proficient in. Typically, bards get multiple instrument proficiencies, so Scanlan most definitely knows how to play numerous instruments.

14:45 for your questions, bards start the game proficient in three musical instruments! Bards are one of the only classes (beside wizards) that specifically have to academically learn their stuff. The bard subclasses are called colleges for a reason - they’re all highly educated in their field. Bards and wizards are actually weirdly similar, and are some of my favourite classes, both conceptually and as a player.

As I recall, in the campaign, Vox Machina was on the verge of a TPK (total party kill) when Grog and Vex pulled their version of the "fastball special" (see old X-Men comics if you don't get that reference). After the session was over, Matt told the group that the only reason The Herd stopped fighting was because Grog got that final hit. If anyone else had of gotten it, The Herd wouldn't have stopped and it probably would've ended the campaign.

Now that you know about Kaylie, you are ready to be told about for the biggest coincidence of the whole campaign. Since the characters were originally only made for a birthday oneshot for Liam, Sam just based Scanlan off of Eminem (Marshall Mathers = Scanlan Shorthalt). In the campaign he used to be part of Dr. Dranzel's Crew (Dr. Dre). However, Matt wasn't aware of this when he made Kaylie, which is insane because Eminem's daughter is named Hailie.

They gave the strength draining curse a little bit more oomph here in the show. In the campaign it was like -2 or -4 to his strength and he had it cured pretty quickly. I'm also glad the show has Pike around a lot more than the campaign did. It must've sucked for Ashley Johnson being 4 time zones away from everybody. She did skype in whenever she could, but that time difference plus job responsibilities made it hard for her. She missed a big chunk of campaign 2 (The Mighty Nein) too. For those not aware, nein is German for no and is pronounced like nine.

The thing that I find of funny is in Critical Role, Goliaths, or at least the Herd act more like Orcs in traditional dnd settings (minus the god worship) when Goliaths in the Forgotten Realms at least are fairly peaceful.
