Jeremy Brett as Holmes, David Suchet as Poirot, Ian Carmichael as Lord Peter Wimsey and John Barrie as Sergeant Cork. Four excellent period detective dramas, each very different but every one worth watching and reacting to!

Excellent series. After finishing the “Adventures “ hopefully you’ll go straight into “The Return”. Some of the best Holmes and Watson stories can be found there. Edward Hardwick is an excellent Dr Watson. Love your channel. ❤

Despite the popular image, many physicians struggle financially for various reasons. In fact, if it wasn't for an unsuccessful medical practice we might never have gotten Sherlock Holmes. Arthur Conan Doyle started writing SH stories because his medical practice wasn't bringing in enough money.

It's so nice to watch your comments on another episode of Sherlock Holmes, Mia. This is like watching my favorite show with someone that also likes it. What I like best are your reactions to each scene. The observations from your point of view are thoroughly enjoyable. You have my best wishes for you until the posting of the next video, Mia.

This is probably my single favorite Deduction scene from ANY incarnation of Sherlock Holmes, where Jeremy Brett proves just WHY he's The Gold Standard for the character, sans quick editing, cool visual tricks or catchy music; it's ALL in his performance, you can practically see the wheels turning in his head as he pieces everything together! (The scene is also great for ASMR, if you're into that...🙂)

So happy to see you react to my favourite episode! :D Thank you very much. ^_^ I love the interactions between Holmes and Watson in this one so much and the musical themes. Also I too love that wallpaper! Random trivia is that the director of this episode - David Carson [who also directed The Blue Carbuncle and the upcoming episodes The Musgrave Ritual and The Six Napoleans] went on to direct episodes of Star Trek the Next Generation and Deep Space Nine as well as the first Next Generation movie! I think you will like Red Headed League, you are in for a treat! Greatly looking forward to it! :D

The actor who played Dr. Trevelyan. Also played Lancelot in John Boorman's Excalibur. A slightly gory, some nudity and suggestive scenes, but a very good telling of the King Arthur legend. I still love how Doctors at the time would actually ask about your health. Even the scene where he checks out the "Nobleman" is excellent.

He is also in the movie 'Evil under the Sun' with Peter Ustinov as Poirot and I'll probably never live it down that I was almost completely oblivious to him until people started pointing out how he's the guy whos arse is constantly on display in very skimpy bathing shorts in this movie and now I can't unsee it! 😂😂😂 (maybe that'll be reason enough for Mia to review this movie if she reads this 😉)

Nicholas Clay was also in The Hound of the Baskerville from 1983 with Ian Richardson as Sherlock Holmes, one of my favourite adaptions, great cast. Unfortunatly Mr. Clay as well died rather young at 53. He had such an interesting face.

Hi Mia, I just subscribed to your channel. I really like your reactions. I’m a big Sherlock Holmes fan. I remember reading the stories when I was young. I’ve seen your reactions for Billy Wilder directed films also, loved your reaction to Sunset Boulevard. One of the last movies Billy Wilder directed in 1970 was “The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes” it’s not an original Conan Doyle story but I think you might like it. If you like mysteries Wilder also directed “Witness for the Prosecution” in 1959. It was an Agatha Christie play that he adapted for the screen.

I can't tell you how delighted I am to see *your* delight in my favourite Holmes series. I have been utterly devoted to the Granada series since it first aired here in Canada in 1984 or 1985. In 1987, my English class was given freedom to choose two topics to write research papers on. My first choice was Sherlock Holmes. I did the work and scored exceptionally well, but I confess it was largely an excuse to watch the program as part of my schoolwork!! ... I do look forward to seeing more Holmes reactions. I missed the last series just prior to Jeremy's death in 1995 :-( so when you get to those, I will certainly watch them in full right before seeing your reactions to them.

Doctors in Victorian times could only do a little for patients, by comparison to today so they were not as well off financially from the rest of society as today. On the other hand, a country doctor was often the first person in a village who could afford and who needed an automobile back in the Model T era. So they weren't that poor, either. Going back further into the Middle Ages, a person who had the only sharp steel blade functioned as both a barber (from the word "barbarian") and surgeon, who advertised his trade in an illiterate society by wrapping the bloody rags from his medical practice on a pole - the original of the striped barber pole.

Have you read the Sherlock series by Laurie R King? set some 20+ years after this "retirement" in which he meets a new apprentice, a young woman whose natural deduction abilities rival his own. My 9th grade English teacher recommended the first book in the series, Beekeepers Apprentice for a book report and I have been hooked ever since! It was sorta kinda my real introduction into the world of Sherlock Holmes. I highly recommend!

The little exchange at the end about what the title should be is actually consistent with the original stories. I don't think you could call it 'meta' (the term certainly didn't exist at the time), but Holmes and Watson would occasionally mention the published stories (written "in-universe" 🙂by Watson), usually with Holmes complaining about how Watson had emphasized all the lurid and romantic elements at the expense of the logical working out of the solution, which to him was the only thing of interest.

Look, I know that this is totally unrelated to this series but you said, quite awhile ago, that you were going to watch “2001: A Space Odyssey” (not to mention other Kubrick films). I was just wondering why you still haven’t done so? The only reason I ask is because I value your insights and enjoy your reviews. It’s one of my two favorite films of all time (the other being “Lawrence Of Arabia”, which you have already done). It’s very thought provoking and I’m curious to know your interpretation of it’s meaning. I really think you will enjoy it as well as his other films. Please give it/them a try.
