My dad was there! They couldn't make to first landing because their ship was hit by a Japanese plane and had to repair the ship just good enough to make the 2nd landing! He made it out alive and lived until 2016 at the age of 96

I WAS BORN DURING WWII, AND AS I GREW UP, I SAW THINGS YOU TODAY HAVE NEVER SEEN. I SAW HOW MY PARENTS LIVED AND SUPPORTED US. WE BECAMSE A FAMILY OF SIX CHILDREN, ME THE OLDEST AND MY MOTHER HAD DEVORCED MY DAD BECAUSE OF BRUTALITY. I AT THREE WENT TO LIVE WITH HER AND A NEW HUSBAND, WHO RAISED ME. MY FATHER NEVER CONTRIBUTED. SCHOOL CARRIED THIS WAR FOR HISTORY CLASS FOR CENTURIES, BUT TODAY, THEY HAVE IGNORED IT. SAD IS WHAT IT IS.

In families that came before you saw things that you never saw or lived through. And families now will live through things that are different than you live through. Anybody that thinks they had the toughest life or made the most sacrifices or had to work the hardest I’m here to tell you it’s just not true. Yeah you may have had it hard but so did millions and millions of other people and I guarantee you people in Europe had it a lot tougher than you did. But good try.

Pretty good flick for being a one hour and six minute movie. I'm always glad to see Pat O'Brien perform. I felt sorry for the career Navy 'gun captain' who dies just before the end of the movie. Thanks for posting.❤💚💛

I saw this film when I was 6 years old. All I remembered was the radar screen stopping when it picked up the enemy aircraft coming in. I didn't even remember the title until this popped up on You Tube. In 1966-67 I was stationed at Okinawa with the USMC.

Kamikaze. In a war where everything being shot was guided by gravity, the kamikaze was a missile guided by a computer before there were electronic computers: a human computer. It is no wonder it was feared by the Navy.

Disappointing. Were we being given hints that this ship the Drake was actually the Ulvert M. Moore skippered by FDR Jr which did shoot down two Kamikaze and sunk a IJN submarine? Pat O'Brien was too old to be playing the captain if this was so.

We had lots of prominent US ship captains over the age of 50 in WWII included: Admiral Chester W. Nimitz (Commander of the Pacific Fleet) Admiral Ernest J. King (Chief of Naval Operations) Admiral William F. Halsey Jr. (Commander of the South Pacific Fleet) Vice Admiral Raymond A. Spruance (Commander of the Pacific Fleet during key battles like Midway) Rear Admiral Richmond K. Turner (Amphibious warfare expert) - all of whom were significantly influential in the war effort and were well over 50 years old when the conflict began. I used an "over 50" category, but many captains in key positions during WWII would likely fall into the 50-60 age range due to the time period and required experience level.

1952? We never fought WW2 in 1952. Nor were we fighting the Japanese. This movie isn't worth watching if they can't get the WW2 dates right. The mustache guy that suppose to have the strong hands, is not strong hands. They are more like a feminine hands. Now I figured out why it said 1952. This movie was made in another parallel universe. They just named the type of ships differently. In this world, They were fighting the Japanese in 1952. Now I get it.
