Loved your Masters of Taiwan series (and others!) as Taiwan was my parents' birthplace. It felt so nostalgic for me, as well as learning history that I didn't know about. Can't wait for the Okinawan series, as I've recently rekindled my love of Karate! Cheers!

Okinawa had styles of kung fu separate from karate. The only one I’ve seen would be Hindiandi or “Rotating Hands, Penetrating Hands.” I don’t know if anyone in Okinawa still practices Hindiandi, though.

That sounds interesting. I seem to remember that there is a form of dance on Okinawa that preserves some ancient martial techniques, but I can't think of the name off the top of my head.

Okinawa, the birthplace of karate? Haha Very excited for this, Shorin-ryu was my first martial art so I've been super interested in the Chinese origins of the art.
@Gieszkanne4 ай бұрын
Very Interesting! For me your videos are already very professional. I have read about a martial art the is just called Ti or Te that is more pure okinawan without chinese influence. Also if you look at the 3 places that makes Karate , Naha, Shuri and Tomari, they are all at one spot. But Okinawa is much bigger. I cant imagine that they only did practice martial arts at this region. I always thought there must be more unknown martial arts on Okinawa but maybe I am wrong.

I'm just back from Okinawa, I was training at my sensei's dojo, I study Uechi Ryu and Matayoshi kobudo. I'm sure you'll fall in love with Okinawa, it is a good mix between Japan, China, south east Asia, and there are so much autoctone cultural things that you will be amazed. Night life is super fun in Naha, make sure you visit Makishi market. Hope you'll have a good trip, thanks for your work bro 💪🏼🥋🌺

@MonkeyStealsPeach4 ай бұрын
Hi Simon, I do try to respond to all messages I get through Patreon. I have just had a look through the message box and not seen any missed messages from you. But yes, the idea of covering various Taiji styles is something I have thought about for a future project. I wouldn't say I'm moving away from Chinese styles, my last two projects were Taiwan and Hong Kong, and after this Okinawa trip, my next one will be back to China.

@@MonkeyStealsPeach it will be very interesting to see if you find anything connecting directly. Will you be also investigating any Tai Chi as there are similarities there too with karate stances?

@@greenshifu "similarities" just like most Kung Fu styles use mainly the same stances. And you find them in much more southeast asian styles.

@@Gieszkanne I know of this and read about styles quite alot. There are more similarities than just stances and worthy of further investigating.

@@greenshifu Not really. Chen style was only teached inside the family. And the other styles just developed around 1900. There are no links.
